I'm just wondering, which one is better off road. I'm thinking the KJ, but is there some places where the KK will win???

We'll assume both are stock.:)

I feel like the KK was designed more for street use than off road. It's boxy exterior almost makes it look a little lower to the ground and less wheel clearance, but i love the KK so I would love to know the facts.

Well we can start here:

'07 Sport 4x4 '09 Sport 4x4

Approach Angle 36 29
Departure Angle 32 30
Min Ground Clearance 7.9 --
Max ground clearance 9.4 9
Breakover Angle 22 22

According to cars.com

This being said, maybe nobody wants to offer up an opinion because they are unwilling to start a war between Liberty owners. Just a thought.

^^^yeah, but this was not intended as a "war thread" but just an objective comparison of the differences of each off road. It is a good question and they are a little different.

Perhaps the question would get a better response over on LOST. I say this because there seems to be more people over there that have owned a KJ and then traded for a KK. Digger is a Mod over there and I think he has had both off-road. It might have even been discussed over there but I didn't look.

I have heard from others who have gone off roading with their KK owner friend when they have a lifted KJ and they are really impressed with what a KK will do stock. It will take alot mroe than you think is ususally the reacting that I hear.

I have not been with with mine yet, but I will say the only difference that I have noticed is the KJ just seems a little snapier, but 1000 pounds will do that too.

KJ has better angles due to it being smaller. But I'd say offroad they're probably about the same. The only one that's way worse is the approach angle.

Marlon.......Yeah but on the approach angle.....I thought there was a front cowl under the bumper that was easily removed to increase the approach angle???

That's true... but it doesn't significantly increase the approach angle.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
KJ

Pro's(over the KK)
--Better approach and departure angles
--Better skids available
--Better placed spare tire
--Non-electronically shifted t-case
--At the moment more aftermarket support

Con's
--Weaker front diff
--Less selection of gear ratio's

KK

Pro's(over the KJ)
--Better gear ratio selection
--Stronger front diff
--Better rear suspension setup
--LBJ's facing the correct way

Con's
--Gas tank placement
--Spare Tire placement
--Lack of aftermarket support(as of yet)
--Worse approach and departure angles
--ESP standard
--Electronically shifted t-case

Just some of the big ones for offroad.
