Hey guys, I had my new-to-me KJ in for the ball joint recall this morning. Apparently it was never done...82,000 miles on the originals and they were not even bad!

I got there at 7:05AM and I was driving away before 8:15AM. Is it me or is that like record time for that job? They must be good at it from doing so many...

Also, I have a question regarding this recall. Is it true that those will be covered for the life of the vehicle? If the lower ball joints (that the dealer serviced) go bad, I can bring it back for a free replacement job, correct? If I add a Daystar lift, I'm sure I'll be getting a hard time - but it should be covered, right?

Thanks guys.

Did you get down and verify the BJ's had been done? I ask because mine were supposed to have been done, and weren't. I found out because I got on the ground and looked.

I don't know about the lifetime replacement though.

Yep, they definately did the job, got some brand new units in there - look beefier than the old ones, too.

Got about 10K on mine since the recall was done....no problems.

Didn't realize how bad my originals were until I got the new ones on and the steering was MUCH tighter and responsive.....and now i'm seeing the effect it had on my tires (made them wear uneven)

Yea, I got about 10K on my new ball joints too. No apparent problems as they're still tight.

They did mine so fast (less than an hour) I had to get on the ground and look myself. I couldn't believe it but they were new. They can probably do them in their sleep.

I'm pretty sure if there was a problem they would be covered again, although I havn't heard of this happening - yet. I don't see how they could refuse???

Where in Upstate are you, Prospect? I'll guess Yutica from your avatar. All the rest of the New York guys are Downstate I think.

Wonder if the recall would cover the moogs if they went bad? Us people with the moogs may be in a tight spot... :(

The moogs shouldn't go bad, seeing as how they're grease-able and all...

You guys with Moog's, keep them greased and should be no problem....(fingers crossed for you). But I havn't heard of the Moogs going bad.

well, stuff wears out so the may go bad down the road.. Which would be normal.. But still, since they had the recall, thats one thing you never need to worry about.. even if you have 200k on your jeep..

Dave,

Yeah, I'm just outside Utica. There are a few Jeep clubs around here and some in Syracuse (about 45 minutes west of here), but no modded KJ's, I'm hoping to be the first in at least the tri-county area. Ordering the lift next week...

Thanks for the LBJ input guys. I hate to be cynical, but I'm just assuming these ball joints will go bad again somewhere down the line. When I go back there with a lifted and well broken in KJ, I figure they'll give me some grief. Ah well...maybe next time I'll do Moogs.
