I have an 06 lib and i just read something in another thread that the transmission is one of those that "learns" your driving patterns or something like that?? Is this right and how does that effect gear shifts/rpms? Is it easy to reflash one as to learn a new way of driving? Am I even close with my questions?
thanks...

im not too sure about the reflash unless you was to disconnect your battery then it would have to "relearn" your driving habits. i had a stratus that had this and when it was "learning", depending on how you drove it, it would shift different (softer or harder shift points). i think but not pos. that it "learns" to shift to they way you use the throttle. if i'm wrong someone plz ring in.

your right, but to get to it ill make you read my senseless rant on the topic...

I personally hate computer programs that try and think for me. Microsoft auto caitalization and fixing of transposed letters in a word like "hte" to "the" for example.... Just makes humanity dumber.

If two seprate control systems are "adaptive" (one being ME the other being the vehicle) neither will ever find ballence. Just flat out stupid i think... (then come to think of it i hate automatic transmissions alltogether, and out of all of them dodge has consistanly made a lineup of the worst of them in history) Nothing pleases me more... although complaining about dodge transmissions is right up there on the list.... Nothing pleases me more than a consistant set of cause and effect relationships with simple a simple ruel base, um i mean... rule base :)D Bill Gates' fault). Makes life nice and easy... predicable.... Adaptive shmaptive I say!!!! Leave the thinking to us humans, we better at it :D But im getting WAY off the subject....

Your absolutely right: 1989....

"The Ultradrive was a significant technological advancement in transmission operation, as it was one of the first electronically-controlled automatics. It pioneered many now-common features, such as adaptive shifting: the computer would optimize shifting based on the driving style of the operator."

6 40TES/41TES
7 62TE

later the 45RFE 545RFE and the 42RLE auto trannys

I poke fun at adaptive programming a bit there (spelling errors ect), but my point is still the same, Ive found my KJ shifts most properly when im easy on the throttle and i dont let it kick down under acceleration. If im jamming on it all the time, it tends to want to kick down more, which in a diesel is a waste of time. I presume this is the adaptive shifting at work and I assume to not like it.

P.S I spell like dog poo w/ our w/ out a computer helping me :D

I just dont like how 3rd and 4th takes over to soon no matter what i do. I also hate the drive by wire crap.

^^agreed, it upshifts way to early. I just limit it to 2nd then 3rd by using the OD/off button. Once I get up to speed Ill let it go back into 4th. If youre accelerating at a fast pace it seems to shift ok, its just those slow accelerations that get it.
