I posted this same question on Lost Jeeps, but I thought I would try here too with a bit of a back story.

My 2004 KJ's CD player stopped working yesterday. I tried cleaning it, but that didn't help. I decided to remove the radio and found out it is really dirty in there. Like someone went mudding and mud and dirt got thrown into the CD player. Ok, I maybe exaggerating.

So, I need a new radio. But that's not the issue. The issue is, I have one HVAC bulb out and one or two dash bulbs out too. I'm this far, I might as well replace them. However, I want to go the LED route.

So, the question is; what bulbs do I need? Or, are these the correct bulbs? I tried eBay and superbrightleds.com and their information was a T4/T4.2 Neo Wedge for the HVAC and PC74 T5 for the dash gauges. Any help I can get is greatly appreciated. If it helps, here are the ones I'm looking at on Amazon.

I would pull the dead bulb out and take it to the dealer. I hear they can't look them up but can match them. I ended up buying something off Amazon, but it was wrong. Ended up unwiring bulb from new mount and wired it into old mount. Plus mine had a blue "condom" over them to change color, and the white bulb was way to bright. just about distroyed the condom trying to transfer it to new bulb (glue worked)

I just bought the cluster bulbs from the dealer if you need thst part number.
I didn't go LED because I wasn't sure what color the cluster is tinted and which color bulbs will be needed. For example a white LED changes my gauges in my other car to bright blue

I ordered the HVAC bulbs from Amazon and they arrived today. I can confirm that they work. I only had two minor issues. First, they don't just fall into place. They take a bit of "persuasion" but nothing that made me feel like they were going to break. This is referring to them going into the hole. Once they're in they rotate and lock just fine. Second, the LED's have polarity. I got one in correctly and the other one I had to rotate 180 degrees. The color I went with is called ice blue. I'll take a picture later this evening. In the meantime, I have these photos to share with the original bulb and the LED bulb for comparison. I haven't ordered the dash gauge LED's but when I do I'll let you guys know if they work.

I tried B8.4 LEDs for the instrument cluster, based on some info I found on the forum. I couldn't get any of them to work, hopefully you have better luck.

I like the color of those! Three questions:

Can you post a link to your Amazon Part?

How much brighter are they then the original?

I haven't changed the color, because I was thinking it would look weird with the odometer and the overhead console stuck in that Chrysler Green color - how would you rate that experience with the color contrast?

Thanks!

Link is in 1st post under HVAC.

Brightness to me seems the same.

The green and the blue definitely clashes. I would say change what you can. OTIS readout and stock radio lights can’t be changed. I’m finding difficulty finding an LED for the shifter column. Don’t order the lights I have linked for the dash lights. The bulb needed for that is a B8.4D

This is really disappointing. I’m sorry you couldn’t get them to work. No offense, but did you try rotating them 180 degrees? My understanding, in case you didn’t know, is that LEDs have polarity. I hope I don’t order mine and find out they don’t work. I’d have to go find stock HVAC bulbs which of course are going to be the same price for one that I paid for 10 LEDs!

Yeah I tried rotating them.
However, I know that someone else here on the forum got them to work, I just can't find that thread at the moment. Why it didn't work for me, no idea. I even tried two different sets of LEDs, from two different manufacturers.

And of course the "Chrysler Green" isn't really a green - its more a blue green. I looked at the green version of the lights in the link (thanks for pointing that out - I'm blind apparently!), it's like a vibrant Shamrock Green. And the blue are "Ice Blue"... I wish I could get an RGB LED for those and then just adjust it accordingly...

I went with the “Ice Blue” because I thought the color would be easier on the eyes at night. My wife’s Eclipse has a dark blue and I think it’s terrible to drive at night.

I’d say if you want to change the color, change where your focus goes to more. Unless I look at my HVAC controls, I don’t notice them. Now, I don’t have the OTIS above the rear view mirror, so I don’t know how much of a distraction that would be. And, of course, the stock radio can be changed out. I found an aftermarket radio that allows you to change the control and display colors to your liking.

On another forum someone said the bulb needed for the gauges is B8.4D, but he also said that a B8.5D would work with some modifications. Do you recall which one you tried?
