I just read a interesting article that informed me most Insurance companies do not cover lifted vehicles. So before you pay thousands of $$ in damages to someone else because your insurance won't you may want to check! When obtaining insurance it's extremely important to notify the agent of modification's to your rig, and is your responsibility to read the coverage supplied to make sure it is what you need. Most companies will supply a (rider) it's a supplemental coverage plan that, yes, it cost more but should the bad stuff happen you will be covered instead of shocked! #-o

Uh, good advice I suppose. Where do you live? I have never had a problem in the MidWest getting a lifted vehicle insured.

Insurance.

DougBenn, Sir, I live in Indiana, I just reported what I had read. It said many not all Insurance companies. You said you did not have any trouble getting coverage on your lifted vehicle, but does your Insurance really know it is lifted? If they do that is fine, I for one would have not known to tell them of a added lift or any other mod, but if you want it covered I guess they need to know. Just knowing how funny Insurance company's are it would not surprise me if they would try to pull something like that when it came time to pay up.. You know the old saying better safe then sorry, and the name of the game is cover your a$$. Have a good day.

How would my insureance company ever know i had the lift? I usually put things on my jeep knowing if i wreck it they are not covered, i just always figured that. If i ever do total it or something ill take the lift off and leave it sitting on the hubs, lol.

Insurance.

jeepjeepster, what the article was getting at if you had an accident, for example, and you totaled out another vehicle, your insurance may have a clause that could deny you of your clam because you have a lift or a engine mod. that may effect the handling from your stock vehicle and leave you hold the so called, BAG! #-o

Yeah, but I'm like him...how the heck are they even going to know? The average person could not look at my 2.5" lift spacers and tell that they are not factory equipment. The only possible way that they would know you have a lift is if the insurance adjuster that comes to look at your Jeep happens to be a ******** Jeep Liberty fanatic that browsed forums.

Doc, No disrespect meant. Sorry if it came across that way. I was deep in thought when I read that and wondered where you lived, if it was in a local paper etc. I have informed my agent when a vehicle was lifted, however I never go with any extreme lifts either. Might be a sticking point. I see your point as well, cover your butt is truly the name of the game. Insurance companies are not in the business to be nice guys, they are they to fight claims.

So what about cell phone users, LCD navigation systems, tinted windows. All of these are in similar categories as Lift and Engine mods. It may effect the handling of your stock vehicle...I'm gonna check into my Insurance though and ask about lifts, etc... More ways to get my money I guess! ](*,)

Libertycrd, the Insurance co. will send out a adjuster to look at your vehicle after a wreck, they are trained to look for things like that. Maybe he might miss your lift but what if your suspension got messed up and after the itemized bill came in to the insurance co. and it had your lift listed, now what? All I can say about you wanting to gamble with fate is, you must have some pretty deep pockets. Now if the accident was not your fault the other peoples insurance will cover you for all repair's. note, it does change from state to state. Just check it cost nothing. PS. I am a friend not a foe just reporting what I have read and by the way it was news to me also.

I completely understand what you are saying and it makes good sense. And I mean no disrespect either. I just think the odds of an insurance adjuster being able to pick out my 1.5" spacer blocks as opposed to the factory 0.5" spacer blocks are little to none. A huge lift kit on a different 4x4 I can see. But these small lifts on the Liberty look factory and only a KJ fanatic like us would ever be able to pick those out.

If I total my KJ and survive, I'll probably get another KJ so I'll probably request to remove the lift kit from my Jeep before the insurance company claims it. LOL. So I'll probably get busted. But anyhow..

Thanks. The magazines will never believe in the ability of the KJ. They don't even understand the KJ. They have condemned it since before it hit the showroom floor back in 2001 and they have never gotten to know it.
