Hey guys new to the forum here looking for some advice. Looking at getting a 2003 or 04 Liberty, Was wondering what are some of the problems the Libertys have ? What things should we really look for during the test drives? I know poor gas milage and somewhat noise since it is a Jeep. And how do they compare to the Cherokees ? Thats what I used to own till the wife blew it up. Would love to have another Cherokee but can't seem to find any in decent shape around my way anymore

Thanks for the help

After owning three XJs and running them all in the 200-250,000 mile range I'll take a Liberty any day, better ride, better mileage, much stronger body wise. As far as poor mileage I have to disagree with that. For what you get and what they weigh etc I don't think 20 or so is bad. Heck Rav 4s don't get but a few more MPGs and and are toys compared to a KJ
Mines over 150,000 bought new by me, and nothing major has went wrong, wear items replace, oil change every 3000, plugs every 25-30,000 and still goes like it did new

'cept better. :smokin:

Jody, I've had mine since new as well. 85,000 miles later and no issues. Pretty capable when well equiped. Not quite the aftermarket that an XJ has but there's still some there. With a few simple mods the KJ is a rewarding ride. So.... boo the naysayers. I love my KJ.

Thanks for the input, I really wasn't into the idea of getting a Liberty at first but the Liberty has grown on me and I think I'll give it a try. I would love to get a Wrangler but I have kids and there just isn't enough room in a Wrangler. So I will go test drive a Liberty and go from there

Keep in mind that the suspension on one that you test drive will most likely be bagged out. Stock springs/shocks suck.

I have a 10 year old and a 12 year old and often make long road trips with them in the summer. They've never complained. And there's room for baggage too. I totally get the Wrangler desire but found lack of towing and cargo space to the KJ. Go with an open mind and no preconcieved notions about our "soccer mom" Jeeps, you'll come away enamoured with the KJ.
