So Mr. Darcy is getting really close to needing new tires so I'm researching what is available on island. It's really best to work backwards down here since we have nowhere near the availability that you guys do up on the mainland. So first I asked for the tires they have in 235/70r 16 and I got...

radar rx57 $139.99
iron man $106.97
goodyear integrity $146
bf goodrich $266

Then I asked for 225/75

iron man lt $117
goodyear wranger $129
nexen rodian 10 ply $159
uniroyal laredo $??
goodyear $234

The lady on the phone didn't seem to interested in reading all the details to me so I didn't get much info from her on some of these. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just want to decent looking tires that will get me around island and on my little beach escapades.

Thanks!

I am mostly on the road, but main roads down here are like back country roads anywhere else in the world. Very steep, tight corners, not always paved, and lots of potholes. When I go offroading it's to go to the beach where the "roads" are steeper, muddier, and have tighter corners. I've never heard of a lot of the tires she told me they have, and like I said selection is the biggest problem down here so it's really not helpful to decide what tire I want then go looking for it. It has to go backwards.

Never heard of some of those either. You need the tire designations like Ryan said for anyone to give you an opinion. From your description of the "roads" and where you are driving you should consider an A/T tire.

Hey Kitty, I had some time so I did some looking into the tires you listed...

I looked at the Radar Tires website and found some interesting tires.
Some look like they are clones from Bridgestone and Hankook for example.
Here is there site:
http://radartires.com/
But no RX57!
The RTL 8, RSX8, RSX9 and Agora RLT91 and their Mud Terrain Renegade R5
all "Look" pretty good.

As far as "Ironman" Tires, they look like they come from Hercules Tires:
http://www.herculestire.com/catalogHercules/herculesLT-SUV_Index.asp
The Ironman in question would be the Ironman A/P, my best guess!
A generic all around passenger tire-Nothing special.
Although if you look at the Hercules Terra Trac A/T and All Trac A/T
both look like they have a good All Terrain (A/T) tread pattern and both have
sizes in 235-70-16 and 245-70-16. The latter being a popular upgrade size
for your KJ.
Their Trail Digger M/T also looks interesting.

But, and here comes the big "But", I have never seen these in person and have no
experience with any of them. A local tire shop does stock all of them and I'll go look
at them and ask questions if you'd like and get the skinny on them...

BF Goodrich...
Probably the Long Trail T/A Tour P225/75R16
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-selector/vehicle/2006/Jeep/Liberty+Sport/4x2|4x4/tires?
Rugged Terrain T/A, All Terrain T/A-KO or Mud Terrain T/A-KM2
In LT225-75-16 sizes:
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-selector/size/ltmetric/225/75/16/tires?
Or there are the All Terrain T/A-KO or Mud Terrain T/A-KM2 in LT235-70-16
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-selector/size/ltmetric/235/70/16/tires?
Or the All-Terrain T/A KO in LT 245-70-16

As far as The Nexen Roadian tires, they look like your standard passenger type tires.

I wonder if the shop you called and mentioned Uniroyal Laredo if those are the Cross Country

Laredo HD/H

Laredo® HD/T

Liberator A/T
http://www.uniroyaltires.com/tire-selector/category/suv-pickup/liberator-a-t/tire-details

As far as Goodyear goes, there are many different "Wranglers"!
http://www.goodyeartires.com/cfmx/w...c=LT&width=225&aspect=75&rim=16#lightTruckTab
3 sizes in 225-75-16
The Wrangler DuraTrac being the best out of the three!

Good chances are that the tire shop you called may be able to special
order tires for you.

I hope this information gives you some more insight into the limited world or tires!

That is a ridiculous amount of information, THANK YOU!!

I'll have to print some of that out and bring it to the shop to see what they will tell me but that is definitely a huge help in picking out my new tires. That's a good point as well about ordering tires, I never thought about asking the shop if they would do that for me :)
