Moaning noise when braking and steering

I've got awful moaning noise from the front wheels when I brake and steer at the same time, for example when I am making a sudden turn and apply brakes, I hear GRRGHHHHHH noise. Like slowing down and making a you turn, but not stopping.

First I thought it was the brakes, but I realized that if I suddenly slow down and stop, the noise is still there, continues to moan a bit less, but still there.

Think of the sound steering makes when you turn it all the way and hold it? This one is similar to that, but much much heavier and noisier. Almost like moaning and rubbing noise. Sand paper against hallow wood. I checked the wheel wells, there is no rubbing.

What was the exact steering fluid we should buy? Maybe I should add some more?

The PS fluid is supposed to be Mopar ATF+4.

It does not have to be Mopar. Any ATF+4 will work.

Personally, I use regular power steering fluid and have had no bad side effects.

Hyedipin, you can get the Mopar ATF+4 at walmart for around $4 a quart. Thats about half what the dealer would want. Mine wanted $9 a quart..

Pop the hood and check the level first. There are a few notches, one for COLD, HOT, and ADD I think.

Could it be your tires? Mine hum pretty good when I slow down and even more if I brake hard at low speeds.

I may change my fluid out tomorrow as Im doing some little things to it now that I hit 30k.

Hyed......Advance Auto also has it. I don't remember the price, but I'll bet it is 1/2 what the dealer will charge.

As for the moan, it is really strange. I don't think it is the tires, they don't seem to rub anywhere..

It's not about them rubbing on the Jeep per say, more like the type of pavement you're on, and the condition of your tires.

For example, my Revo's didn't wear evenly thanks to the crappy ball joints that went bad and threw it way out of alignment. Now, when i'm slowing down and turning (mainly slowing down hard, or turning hard, or both) I get some nice moaning/groaning coming from the tires on the pavement. It can be heard above the howl from the cupped tires, but i'm not worried about it. New tires will solve this for me.

The tread on mine just roars alittle when stopping and taking corners. Roll the windows down(while freezing) and see if its any worse. My brakes are also just loud, its the type of material they used. Its worse after it has rained and such.

Ill take some pics when I change the fluid out in the reservoir hyedipin. Im just going to use a turkey baster and get all I can out, fill it up, then run it some and do it again.

So you won't just add, but suck all of them out and replace? Turkey juice sucker should work fine, but I think i saw somewhere in my uncles garage, one of those syphon things with a tiny pump, i wonder if that can work. Otherwise, I will just top it off.

Yea, just use your wife's turkey baster - but don't tell her I said that....

Tim, my tires are brand new, only about 4k on them so far. I can feel the noise in my brake pedal. It never did it before.. I just have to keep doing the same thing at same corner to see if it continuously does it or not.

I also forgot to add that tread patterns can amplify this affect. The more aggressive they are, the louder they can be. Sometimes I can feel it in the pedal as well. I really don't think you have anything to be worried about with it

Changed out SOME of the fluid today. Used a normal turkey baster and it seems to work great. That little reservoir doesnt hold near as much as I thought it did. I didnt get more than a 1/4 quart out each time I sucked it all out. Idk if it goes on down in there or what. I tried to use a hose at first but that wasnt working out, so I just used the baster. I used an empty oil bottle to put the old fluid in it as I sucked it out. I sucked it out, filled it back, then turned the wheel to lock each way 3 times and ended up with around 3/4 of a quart total. I used Valvoline SYN power steering fluid but ATF+4 will work just fine. I had a hard time finding some Valvoline as the local Advance was out of it and walmart doesnt seem to carry it. Ended up finding some at an AutoZone. That stuff is Clear! You can hardly see it once you fill the PS back up.

Didnt really take any pics other than this one. Dont mind the tube, it was not needed at all as the reservoir wasnt deep at all.

I've got exactly the same symptom when turning sharply at slow speed (when parking or doing 3 piont turn on a steep hill) yet tyres and fluid seem fine. It sounds like brake noise for sure almost as if there is still slight pressure of pads on disks even tho brake peddal has been fully released.

Nobody else around here had ATF+4, they all had bunch of fancy brands, with mixes etc..
Went to the dealer to buy steering fluid, I told him ATF+4, he brought back ATF+4, but on the bottle it says "Transmission". Is it the same thing, or did I just make a $10 mistake?

Same thing. That is what it uses.

Check a wallymart if you got one down there. They sell it now and it is a lot cheaper. Also I have seen it at Autozone.
