The wife and I are packing up the Liberty tonight and "heading out" to the Four Corners area early tomorrow morning. It's where Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico all come together. One day driving up, two days on the trail, one day back. We'll cover about 900 miles all together.

We're meeting my old AF roomie and his wife. They're driving down from Colorado Springs to meet up with us in their blue '05 KJ Sport 4x4. This will be the first time we've had our new Liberty up there.

We're going through Monument Valley, Valley of the God's, some trails around Mexican Hat, UT and some Indian back roads... nothing hard, mostly bumpy, a few ruts and dusty.

I'll post some pics next week when we get back.

Here are some teasers taken a couple of years ago from our last trip up there to hold you over....

The road into Monument Valley going south out of Utah and into Arizona....

Here you go. It's on the Navajo Indian Reservation and stradles Arizona and Utah....

Can you do me a favor with those plates? Can you check

BJK 1903

or just BJK

to see if it is available? I am going wild, trying to figure out why BJK combination is not allowed.

Both are available here in Arizona, but that doesn't mean they will be approved until you apply for it....

Wow, that is a beautiful picture. You must have had a great time. How did the KJ perform?

Oh, and welcome back.

Thanks.

The Liberty was not put to any real challenges. Monument Valley and the Valley of the God's are nothing more than washboard dirt roads that can be done in a "rental" 2wd vehicle.

Canyon de Chelly (Jeep Jamborees are held here several times a year) required 4wd Hi. 4wd Lo was needed for only two of 108 water crossings. Much of the canyon trail is in a shallow, sandy river bed ranging in depth from 1" to 15" and sandy tracks. A Navajo guide is required to keep visitors out of quick sand, other troublesome spots and to point out petroglphs, cliff dwellings etc.

Here are some pics....

Greetings all...

My wife and I are heading to Monument Valley in about 3 weeks. We're driving from Ohio to Moab, then plan to wander around Utah for a week before meeting my college roommate and his wife in Durango for a few days of cruising through the San Juans. Monument Valley is GREAT. This will be my 8th trip there and about my dozenth trip to Moab, Arches and Canyonlands. My wife has never been out there, so she's in for a bit of sensory overload.

Here's some imagery from my last trip out there with my niece and her husband in 2004... http://www.nls.net/mp/cameraflage/MM04_monument_valley_4a.html

Have fun and be nice to the Navajos!

Yeah, nice post/pics. Be sure to report back after your trip so I can make a brief comment about the area YOU visited and then take your thread in another direction to somewhere else that I've visited.

Can you say hi-jacked???? (blarg)

Enjoy your trip and be nice to the other citizens of the Mistake by the Lake when you get home....
