Ok, I don't think this is normal. Lately, when I've been parking the Jeep, it rolls backwards slightly on perfectly level ground after I put it in park. I don't remember it ever doing that and I have always been nice to this thing except for absolute emergency situations. Should I be concerned? The 90K service is coming up very shortly.

No....mine will do this....doesn't take much of an angle to make it roll.

To help take the pressure off the ******, when you stop, put the ****** in neutral, set the e-brake. Then take your foot off the foot brake, and let it roll (so that the e-brake takes the pressure of the Jeep). Then put the ****** in Park and shut it down.

I do this no matter if i'm parked on a hill or parked on a level surface.

Okay so I'm not the only one then. Bimmer_2002 I really appreciate the info, but I am lucky enough to have the 45RFE, not the 42RLE, so I am pretty confident a dealer isn't hiding a recall on me lol.

I've been wondering if my 545RFE will roll back on hills like my old 42RLE did, but there's no hill here that's steep enough for me to find out. It won't be long until I find out though. :D

Oh, btw... desertkj... that's normal. :p

Its just slack in the driverline. Same reason you get a BANG when you let off or give it gas at certain times.

Like 2003kj said, use that parking brake, thats why its there. If it doesnt work good, then you need to adjust it.

I'm going to start using the parking brake method to park. I don't ever think I pulled the PB. Hopefully it works.

Be careful in doing this - I'd do it on a weekend or something when you don't need the car. I'd also consider oiling the cable by the axle. You very well could get the brake stuck on.

I don't see any big deal with the vehicle rolling a bit. All that the parking selection in the trans does is put a prawl into a gear. Basically, it's like using a tie-town strap. So, the prawl just isn't quite seated fully.

I'm going to admit, I almost never use my parking brake unless I am parking on any sort of hill. Why? That's why my uncle's truck autonomously rolled down my grandmother's driveway and into the street..........

I don't trust the parking pawl to hold the vehicle on hills.

However, I do pull my handle to test it out every few weeks.

Let me take this opportunity to say that i continue to hate that slack (it is getting louder). (blarg) Please someone fix it. Not too tight, just tighter.
