alright here is how the story goes....
I was at a intersection where there was two sets of lights for my lane. One light at the intersection and then two car thengths of road, rail road tracks and then the second light. Well I was the second car at the first light with the tracks at my rear. All lights where red and then BAM!! My rear end lifts up a few inches. The guy who hit me thought he could fit between me and the tracks even though the gap was about 6 ft and he also went through the light. So we pulled to the side And i Called the police. The guy who hit me starts complaining the he could loose hit licence. I really didn't say much about that b/c I didn't care. He hit my KJ. Well police get there. They look me I'm strange b/c the only real damage I had was a junk taken out of $100 tire cover. The road is on slight incline so he actually pushed up on the spare and suprisingly there is no damage to spare mount or rear gate. Well the police check out the other guy. He was drinking and they arrested him! So that's my story. Other than my tire cover there a no there damage and my back hurts from the jolt but I should be okay. I feel soo lucky that nothing else happen. I've read dones of horror stories on here about rear end hits on KJ. More details will come when I speak with the police on Monday.

***** to hear that dude. Caught me odd that youve read horror stories though, every rear ending Ive read about with the KJ turned out great. Usually it bends the gate some which requires a new gate though, which is $$. Damage doesnt look bad though!

What kinda car was he driving and how much damage did it to it? Weve always gotta know that!! The more damage to the other car the better, right?! :D

Well see the couple stories I read where either the tailgate and rear window are completely destroyed or the impact would wreck the tank too. Then I seen if you get hit on one of the rear corners that whole section is gone and the rear tire has been hit also causing problems with the rear axle.
I've read the good stories too but nothing good was flashing through my head when I got hit.

He was Driving a mid-to late 90's Buick. It still had a hood ordainment witch my Spare tire removed for him lol. So the car had a low flat front end and like I said the street was on a slight incline so hit me a lower angle and pretty much stopped just as he hit my spare and that’s how I got pushed up. In fact what I think happened is when he slammed on his breaks the nose of his car dipped down and when it came back up that’s when he hit my spare. He had a bent hood b/c of the weight of the KJ on it. So he didn't get to much damage either but I know getting thrown into the back a cop car for DUI probably hurt him more.

I know you what you mean about the Tail Gate always being damage. Today I removed the spare, and checked everything out. Everything still lines up and the tail gate isn't loose and there are no dents where the spare tire mounts attaches to tail gate. I will get him for my molded Tire Cover though. I've spent a $100 on hit a year ago and I'm looking to buy another one.

Tomorrow I'll know more when I contact the Police. I'm also thinking of having the KJ looked over just make sure I didn't miss anything. Of course it will be at his expense.

Ugh. Drunk drivers. I can't stand them. OK so he could lose his license. Exactly what does that matter to you... um, hello? duh, lol.

Glad to hear you are OK though. I'd ask for pics, but ah well, there's nothing to see here, looks like. Be sure to check your bumper for scratches you may not have been really looking for. The bumpers and flares scratch easily. I know from experience. (Offroading, sideswiping gates... hehe)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have it looked at!!! Call his insurance (or even your own and have someone check it over!!!!) I was rear ended in my 04 KJ this past spring. I too was stopped at a light and a guy who was text messaging hit me moving less than 20mph. At first glance, the rim on my spare looked scuffed but nothing else major was visible (to my eye). We did call the police, who came out and took a report, citing the other for causing the wreck.

The jerk waited 10 days to report the accident to his insurance (I waited 3 days and then phoned them myself ;-) When I had the adjuster out to our home, he looked at the entire back end, opened and closed the gate and glass, etc. There was a bit of visible denting we had not noticed ........around the tire bracket and after working the gate a few times, he said it needed to be replaced, as did the spare tire mount, paint, etc.......

All in all, there were not quite $3000 in damages for a low impact/slow speed rear ending. I was amazed! Have your rear gate checked. Mine had a small catch you could feel when opening and closing. Also, the glass just didn't sound the way it always had when you click it closed. All in all, the body shop had it for about 5 days and the other driver's insurance paid for me to have a rental (new 4dr wrangler!) the entire time! ;-)

I'm going to have the entire jeep looked over to make sure everything is okay. Of course at the exspense of his insurance. :)

Chief....That is the thing to do. Sometimes there is "hidden damage" that is not apparent at first glance. More than one pair of eyes looking at it is better, especially if one pair belongs to a professional adjuster.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

And I have also heard of the horror stories of rear ender accidents, and the vehicles bursting in to flames and such. But mostly that is just bs. Although anything is possible, but it would be a real rare occurrance in a low speed accident..

I was driving a ford truck once a few years ago and during a snowstorm, got rear ended by a honda and he hit my trailer hitch dead center and drove it through his radiator and folded up his hood and had to be towed away and I had hardly a scratch. I don't think he was going more than 20 - 25 mph at the time as he was trying to stop on ice/snow.
