Im new to the KJ forums, and i joined mainly because there's a little KJ Country vinyl on my back window from the previous owner:D I have an '05 Liberty and it currently has 255/55/18 tires on it. Now, this thing is rear wheel drive, not 4 wheel. It has these horrid street tires on it, which are fine, but once they hit the snow...say your prayers. Now im thinking its smarter to just get ahold of some cheap stock rims and switch them off and on for the winter. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking at just replacing the tires i have on my 18s now, and its looking expensive. I dont do much of any off road driving (mainly because its only rear) but it would be nice to have something reliable in the wet grass and snow. Does anyone have any suggestions that have served them well?

Also, if you're looking to get rid of some wheels, let me know!

Thanks!
Max

I run BFG AT/KO on mine... The tires that were on it BFG long trail were horrible in the rain and snow like you were saying. They were brand new Long trails too. I called BFG to see what I could do about it since I just put 500 into these new tires, they actually replaced the tires with the BFG AT/KO's at their expense, I did pay the difference in tire price which cost me another 172.00 .

Your tire purchase depends on what YOU want to do with the Libby... You say its only 2WD and that you live in an area where it snows. You don't really need aggressive tread MT's but if you venture off pavement (trails rides) then a good AT would work. But if you never go off pavement then I would suggest a good all season tire.

I like BFG AT/KO's for everything, but I have 4WD and we do go off pavement ALOT and not just dusty trails!

I'd start off with a good set of AT's, and if those don't satisfy, snow tires!!!

I wonder who the previous owner was on here...

yeah i dont know who it was, i never met the guy. i got it from a wholesaler for a wicked deal. I mean since its not 4WD its not really off-road friendly, but it certainly gets the job done for me. Anyways, i have just had bad experience with snow tires in the past, so id like to get something with a little more "bite" to try and get going in the snow a bit better. if you guys say ATs then thats probably what im going to end up going with. now i have 18s on there now, do you guys think it would be cheaper to try and find some junk rims just for the winter and get the smaller tires or just replace the tires on my current rims? My brother works for VW and has an association with TIRERACK. he said that he doesnt get much of a discount, but the big thing is i can get them mounted for free. what would you guys do? thanks for the help and sorry about the lengthy post!

I think getting another set of rims with AT's on them would be a good idea. 1. Keep your 18's nice 2. AT's are easier to find for a 16" rim.
