hey, names Dave. live in utah and i just bought my first jeep. an 03 liberty with 38000 miles bone stock. bought it cause the wife wanted an auto and 4 doors and 4 wheel drive "family car". bought it and headed straight for the hills... kinda disappointed in it but it is stock. needs more flexy and more ground clearance :) i really do not have a clue what the good things are for these as far as lifts and tire sizes. from what i have seen 31-10.5-15 is about the limit along with 2.5" lift right? i dont need to go crazy cause it will be the wifes DD most of the time. but living where i do it takes 5 minutes to get to hills and stuff so we will be going a lot.
ordered HID's for it already cause the lights SUCK. i am also going to figure out a way to put a lightbar or something for more light.
leaning towards some 15" cragar cheapo wheels (black) and some 31's (undecided on which ones)
i do not want a spacer lift. but i also cannot afford $1000+ lift. i will do some searching around but any quick answers to a decent suspension lift 2.5"? and where to get it?
we are planning a trip to moab on october so would like it all done by then :)

anyway...been into cars and bikes forever...guess a truck or two. i had a pro street camaro. 96 cobra. 02 cbr954rr. 07 cbr 1000rr. 82 toyota LONG bed 4x4. 78 chev short bed 4x4. 03 Mitsubishi EVO. 03 VW GTI VR6. etc etc etc there is more but whatever. always wanted a wrangler and since the 4 door one came out i really really want one but not in my budget yet :(

looks like there is a lot to be learned from this site! excited to make the jeep look and perform better!

I can't say anything about wheelin' a stock KJ, but once you get a lift on it and some proper shoes, you'll be surprised at what it can do. Especially in your neck of the woods. It isn't a ******** rig but can get the job done with nothing more than lift, tires, armor.

How far are you from Moab? I went for my first time in April and have been dreaming about it ever since. Wish I lived a little closer.

Anyways welcome, and we're gonna need to see some photos of the new rig :D

draper huh? i work in draper. i live in Lehi. im an owner by choice too i just wish a wrangler would have been practical for me and the wife. i have seen what lifted libertys will do that why i am stoked to get a lift and some decent tires asap.
i have been to moab quite a few times just never in my own rig. been to "little" moab in my toyota and that old 82 dominated that place :) all i really want to do with the jeep is small dirt stuff locally and like hells revenge in moab and somewhat easier stuff like that down there. dont want a full on rock crawler.

i'll go snap a pic. its ugly right now. and the poopy green color is kinda lame until i toss some black wheels on it then i think it will actually look good.

Welcome.

Like others said you will love driving the kj off road.
It is fun surprising people with the little kj. I pulled my brother out of mud that he was stuck up to the diffs and not moving an inch. Oh yea, he has a 99 ram 2500 diesel 4x4 with a few hundred pounds of trail tools in the back, 7,000#+ everyone was impressed.

You will get steered in the right direction by these folks with your jeep.

That'll be the first thing needed to be done. When you're ready, see Bear at 4Wheel Parts and have him order you a set of Skid Row. You can perhaps get the MOPAR ones cheaper but then you have the expense of carrying spares of all the parts it's supposed to protect.

U4WDA Board meetings are held the last Thursday of each month @ Larry Miller Jeep 6:30 PM with the exception of Sept which will be held in MOAB 9/17 @ the Gravel Pit Lanes bowling alley; trail ride to follow 9/18

Make sure you sign up at Rocky Mountain Extreme which is 99% locals and I'll see you in American Fork Canyon for National Public Lands Day 9/25 on a fencing crew.
