This is my first time in a Jeep Forum. I used to own a Miata and was registered with miata.net before. I look forward to hang out with a new group of members here and hope I can benefit and learn the wisdom of others.
I just purchased a used but new 2004 Liberty 2 days ago and I love driving it. It's so much higher than my previous Miata which was lowered to the ground.
After reading though the General Discussions Forum, I'm getting a sense that the liberty does have it's share of peculiar problems, i.e. stalling, error codes...etc (no electronic codes on miata's). I rarely had any problems with the miata and i'm hoping to GOD that I don't have a terrible experience with Jeep either, as this is my second vehicle.

Question one, I have to invest in a good set of wheel locks. Are there any good ones out there other than McGuards? I don't particularly like the McGuards as they protrude out from stock nuts enabling theives to get a grip on them still. I've known people to use vice grips to take McGuards off.

Wheel Locks

Thank you Bennett for that comment. In looking at the Gorilla they look exactly like the McGuards. Furthermore, on TM Engineering's website regarding McGuard Wheel Locks, they quote
"Do not be fooled by imitations from companies such as Gorilla, or other generic brands! These are the real deal!"

Some comments posted by other members (that I've read) say the cap end of the nuts falls off. Having read that, that would seem to be a very precarious situation as one can be involved in a traffic accident with tragic consequences.

What are you thoughts?

Nooooooooooo, the lug nuts themselves do not fall off... just the caps that go on the actual nut itself. However, them falling off... and hitting another car at 70MPH wouldn't be really pretty. It's a pretty cheap move, and Jeep's not the only people doing it these days. If you look at the nuts, you'll see what the "cap" is. It's a really thin covering.

I've gor the gorilla lugs on my KJ. They are solid, not capped like the OE lugs and I feel much more comfortable with them on than I did before (thinking of my wife getting stuck with a flat, no tools and a cap comming off). As for your concern that these arent the best designed lugs/locks....if someone whats your wheels they will get them NO matter what you do. For me the only thing the locks are going to be good for are the causal theifs, if its too hard for them to do quickly they'll move on to the next vehicle.

For reference I've got 3k in wheels/tires for my VW and no wheels locks 8-[

I'll agree with the comment about if they really want your wheels, they will take them no matter what.

Welcome to the site by the way. Look forward to seeing pics of your KJ.

Lock Nuts

My previous car was a souped up Miata with most of the works. I installed two sets of under the cap lock nuts on my aftermarket mags cuz I was more paranoid of people putting my car up on blocks.
You must be registered for see images

It's a wonder why anyone would want stock mags anyways. Honestly I would prefer aftermarket tuners still but I think I'm keeping my stocks cuz they look cool!!! [-( Probably the worst feeling when your walking out to go to work and you see your beloved missing it's wheels. You can bet it's a start to a shi tee day.
