Hey Folks!

Found a leak in the muffler today (as well as one of the flange bolts sheered off??). Can someone tell me if I have any replacement options that will not require welding?

Try to use layman's terms and go easy on me! :emotions34:

Thanks!!

But honestly alot of mufflers are made to fit over the 2.5 exhaust we have. Just the suitcase muffler that comes stock is huge compared to aftermarket mufflers. I had to use an 18" extentsion tube flared at one end to fill in the space.

I just used the stock it was still in descent shape. If you are on a budget and have to replace it just get a long piece of pipe no flares and go straight out of the muffler all the way back. But honestly you shouldnt have to i live in chicago salt city and mine only had some surface rust. The super 40 is made to slide over the 2.5" pipe. So the extention would go into the muffler and the flair on one side is made to slide over the existing tail pipe.

Yeah my pipe behind the muffler is still pretty good. Reason i have a hole in the muffler is it's taken a few hits.

Yea just cut that thing off and put a new one in there its pretty easy. I got a flowmast at autozone for $100 you can find them cheaper online. Thrush makes one too supposed to be comparable but much cheaper. The super 40 is pretty loud but not real loud i think its perfect. The super 10 is shorter and really loud. Post up a video once you get it all together.

There are dozens of "knockoff" Flowmaster. 98% of em are just as good, or better, and a hell of a lot less expensive. They just don't buy full page spreads in every performance magazine you pick up.

The O.E. system is all stainless steel (other than fasteners) and will last longer than the vehicle. Mufflers do get damaged from impacts and occasionally you'll see one with fatigue cracks, as stainless tends to be more brittle than carbon.

Tom m made a post a few days ago about installing a larger bore muffler than the one parts catalog will suggest. If I were going to do a shade tree install, I'd go back and look it up.

I'd go anything but a Flowmaster , after a while the highway drone gets really annoying on a trip.
Ran one for about 90,000 miles was so happy to get rid of it
As far as the pipes , mine are still all original ( except for muffler ) and been through many winters

If your tailpipe has surface rust, I would replace it with the new muffler. When I put on a new s.s. muffler, the tailpipe was still pretty solid. I cleaned it up with a high speed wire wheel and painted it with heat resistant paint. Even with that, that tailpipe only lasted another 2 winters, it rusted off this spring, right after the muffler. I did weld mine together, which is better than slip & clamp which traps moisture.

My flomaster quiets down at highway speed. I personally like the sound. I have had it a little over a year. No problems. Not too loud not silent. My stock system made no noise.

Flopro has been my go to... Cheap, sounds good, performs well and is quality stuff. Some guys just get the El Cheapo parts store house stuff and that's fine. I've got my Borla system but that was on there when I bought it, gonna get a hold of a Flopro Super V when I get a chance and get rid of the dual exhaust.

FloPro is a perfect example of a Flowmaster generic that's at least as good as,and cheaper than Fm.

I've no experience with Borla, my impression is pricy and hyped up. The only one I'd put head and shoulders above the rest is MagnaFlo. Excellent stainless steel muffler either matte or high polish. Totally unique insides.

Magnaflos are a great muffler, you can have all of the Flo Pros, Flowmasters etc wouldn't give you a dime a dozen for them
Sound good at idle on a V-8 , but even owners of them on those cars complain of the drone . Mine at 65-70 was so bad you couldn't even talk to the person next to you, that was with tail pipe clear out the back. Buddy had same thing with it dropping off in front of the rear axle and it was the same. He went back to stock muffler after about 4 years

To me that's any non V8 engine. Ever hear a Ford V10 with duals? Sound kinda like an old John Deere "poppin Johnny".
