On an '02 auto, if I shift from drive down to 1st, how fast should it shift?

It seams like there's a delay. When I downshift it takes a few seconds before it downshifts. Is this delay normal or should it instantly shift? Or does it need to slow to a certain speed before downshifting?

Certain speed or RPM range. How fast are you going when you do it? Doesnt take long if youre not going fast.

Why are you manually downshifting it, or if you are going very slow , like off road , then yes a couple of seconds. Hopefully its not out on the highway

With mine if you were going 65mph down the higway and shifted into 1st the computer won't let it shift down as that would be very very bad, not sure if it's the same on older models.

Same here on a 2004. Sometimes I'll engine brake downhill or something of the likes that causes me to go OD on --> OD off --> 2 --> 1.

No, not on the highway or going to fast. I was seating the brake pads and rather than use the brakes to slow for a turn, I downshift. Going 10-15 maybe. It sounds like its normal to take a couple seconds or not to shift until speed is ok. It just didn't react a quick as my cars. I just wanted to make sure it's al good.

Thanks for the responses.
