I don't care for the position (too low) or the hardness of the center console lid/arm rest. I was thinking of stopping by the leather store and getting some black leather and then pulling that lid off and covering it with foam and leather to raise it up a bit and pad it.

I think I'll make stitches on the bottom instead of stapling the plastic just to make it non-invasive for now.

Anyone ever done this before?

Cool project. We ghetto, we put arm on plastic. :)
It will be interesting to see it. Mine started making some squeaky noises because I have been leaning on it too much. Where do you plan to staple it? The bottom plastic will hold those? Unless you can remove the bottom cover and tuck the leather in there then put the cover back on.

For lack of a better picture, I was thinking of doing the bottom something like this (thinner leather of course). That plastic seems brittle and might crack if stapled.

I do like the idea of seeing if I can take it apart more and get the leather up under the top part.

No, don't do it like that, I think it will move around with that. Plus, the bottom of the cover has groove, to allow CDs or a bit oversized items to stick out from the box, still allowing it to close. With these ties, you will have that area blocked.

Or just break the arm of your sofa at home, mount it there. That would be incredibly funny and cool.

Alot of WK owners over on Jeepsunlimited did the same thing. If Im not mistaken someone started making them like that. I would love to do that mod if it matched the interior.
