Hi, newbie here, I just had my 05 Liberty limited in for an oil change.
It has 35000 miles they showed me some fluids (which I did not think they looked bad) and said they were dirty and I needed to have my power steering flushed?:^o and my transmission fluid changed. since I was in there already I had them do the power steering fluid which was $100.00 and said I would wait on the Trans.
When I went home and told my husband what they did, he just raised his eyebrows and said "Power steering flush?" wow I have never heard that one.
So we checked the manuals and there is no info on power steering maint intervals.
Did I get ripped off?

Yes you did.

The ****** doesnt need to be flushed, but its not a bad idea to get the fluid changed. A flush will flush all the old fluid out of the ******. If you just drop the ****** pan, you only change around 4 quarts of fluid(which is ok). Im not sure what the total amount of fluid the ****** holds, somewhere around 11-14 quarts.

The owners manual in my 04 liberty calls for the ****** fluid to be changed at 60k. I personally believe thats to long to wait, so Im going to do it at 30k.

Its always best to be a local mechanic that you trust to do service work on the Jeep. The dealership will tell you that you need a bunch of unneeded service.

Its not a bad idea to change out the powersteering fluid, but you can do it with a turkey baster and under $10 worth of fluid from Advance Auto parts. I will probably change mine out at 30k, but I offroad alot and tow a boat(alot of turning). For the everyday driver that keeps the Jeep onroad, its not really needed till later on down the road.

Wow, the power steering flush was pretty expensive. However, getting those items done as a maintenance is good for the Jeep. You may want to consider doing the ****** flush as it should be changed or checked every 30-40K.

$100 is typical for a place that wants to up charge for labor. For $10 bucks and a turkey baster you can do it yourself at home. So just imagine what the $100 bucks is for when they use a machine to suck out the old and spit in the new (much quicker than the turkey baster).
