I think I have a leak, the resivour was low and the skid plate and hoses below it are wet. I put some fluid in, then noticed the "use proper fluid only" label on the cap. I just used some stuff I had laying around. Do you guys think there is really a specific brand for kj's? As a side note, has anyone changed one out (if it's not just a hose/clamp)?
I won't get to it until next weekend, hey it's lasted this long right? Besides they are predicting every womens worst nightmare to hit Tuesday (1" - 4" heading her way), and I'm not banging on it in that stuff.

That's a good question about the fluid??? I can't imagine that one brand or the other really matters... but I guess that would be the place to start if the hoses are all good I've never changed out the pump on a KJ, but I did on another vehicle (twice in fact... as the first rebuilt pump I received leaked right away!). It wasn't too hard... but it's been a few years. Do you have a service manual?

How many miles does your KJ have on it by the way?

Ya, got the FSM. Miles wise, it's the '02 and my wife's been driving it (I get to blame her for breaking it). I think it's between 70 and 75k. I'll check the mileage and let you know for sure.
I may look into the extended warranty, see if it covers anything on the replacement.

i had to top mine off with power steering fluid not too long ago....checked it one Saturday as I was doing my routine check for things of this nature and noticed that while the engine was hot (and running for that matter) and fluid was below the "full cold" line. I just got some regular Napa power steering fluid for like $1 or $2 and topped it off. No problems and that was a little over a month ago.

That's good news. I used some stuff I had laying around, about all that was legible on the label was pyroil power stearing fluid. I actually filled it to full and had to medicine dropper it back to the full cold level.

Did you notice if you had any leakiing, or was it just "used" by the pump?

That seems a little early for a pump to go out... as I would think well over 100k. The car I replaced the pump on was about 130k.

Yeah, take it in right away and see if DCC will cover it.

Good luck, and let us know...
