Several months ago when I joined this forum I posed the question, "Do after market seats fit the Liberty without having to do any modifications?" I received limited response at that time, probably because I didn't really explain myself all that well.

I'm on a REALLY tight budget. Well, that's not really true. I have no budget because I'm not working right now. Shortly after joining the forums here I ended up in the hospital for over a week. I'm not gonna go into all that, everything's fine now, and it's rather boring story anyways.

So, here I am again, still looking for a fairly good replacement seat for our family's liberty. For the record, the back adjustment handle cracked off, and part of the frame to mount is cracked (bad weld perhaps?). This makes the vehicle nearly impossible for my wife to drive since she suffers from major back problems and can no longer adjust it for to be able to comfortably (and safely) reach the steering wheel.

Sidebar: What is Jeep's recall policy? The vehicle that I need the seat for was bought by my wife's late father. Due to his illness, they received many recall notices, but also due to all the issues associated with the illness, they never followed up on them. From my research I know the seat back adjust handle was an issue on many different models of jeeps. I think I may have heard something similar about the frame to motorized mount as well. (I had a 2002 renegade, wife's father bought the 20004 limited sport.)

Best bet is to first contact Jeep to see what all recalls have been done and get them done. I don't ever remember any recall on the seats.
I'd say best bet is to hit up the wrecking yards and find a good used seat. heck I have two full sets here so they are out there.

My driver seat back handle was broke off when I got it too. I used a vice grip pliers to adjust it and just left it there. I wish mine was fixed too, but that's a project for a rainy day for me. Sounds more serious for you. You might try the vice grips idea, it may offer some relief and added safety, so your wife can drive it, while you are looking for a permanent solution.
