Hey there guys, i just sealed the deal on my 04 renegade with 42,000 kilometers on it this morning. Now its loaded with the light bar and all that good stuff. But on the light bar it has covers over it, i was wondering if they served any purpose or do most people just take them off and leave them off.

Now that i have the liberty i will even more questions! lucky you guys huh lol.

Some states require them per law. You could get pulled over if you do not have the covers on. Usually the cop is having a bad day and has nothing else to do...

You may want to check with your area to see if they are required.

But besides that i dont need them? im pretty sure i dont because there are many off road trucks around here with no covers on their off road lights.

So if i dont need them on then i will take them off because a lot of my friends live out in the woods so i can turn those on when going down those deserted streets.

i took mine off for a couple of reason

1. if i need to turn the lights on i don't have to stop and take them off
2. too tempting a target for a thief or prankster
3. my luck one would come loose and get lost
4. i would accidently turn on the lightbar and melt them, and the lenses
5. i just like the way it looks

but that's just me

Once I removed mine they have been kept off. I agree with Dnm that it looks way better with them off and that it's an easy target for theifs if left on. However, do check your local laws to ensure that you won't get ticketed for not covering them up. It's amazing that Jeep sold vehicles with these light bars since there are regulations in many areas regarding the height you can put Driving Lights (Hellas, etc...).

probably sold it for an off road package and probably why they provided the light covers for when you were on the road

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
There are some states that the Renny was not sold new because of the light bar, another reason Jeep made it optional in the later years.Check with your local laws concerning if they need to be covered.Alot of places only allow 4 white uncovered lights facing forward and 2 of them are your headlights.

I know my home state requires them to be covered but the cops will not mess with you cause they want to catch you with them on,at a cost of $600 per light:eek: compared to the $20 ticket for the covers not being on.
