Well, I just installed my RB1. It all works great, except when in Sirius, it doesn't display the artist/song titles as I feared.

Is something just set wrong? I honestly don't see how it could be another cable, as there are no other ports on the back of this unit.

Could it be a different cable that runs from the Sirius receiver in back to the head (RB1) unit?

Don't get me wrong, so far I love the NAV unit. I look forward to my next long trip with it.

However, I find it frustrating that the song data display requires yet MORE hardware.

Mopar/Chrysler needs to simplify things a little here.

I think I can live without the song data. I bet I'll keep it on the NAV screen about 100% of the time, and on that screen, there wouldn't be song data displayed even if my install permitted it.

I think the RB1 nav unit should be displaying the artist and song. I don't have sirius but one of my regular radio stations displays artist and song. I have the mopar CD changer installed if that makes a difference.

The REGULAR FM stations show the extra info. Its the Sirius stations the apparently require more hardware for that function to work.

I was just giving you a hard time. I too would be upset after spending all that $$ there was another damn cable to buy to have functionality you had before...

If anyone is able to work it in to their budgets, I HIGHLY recommend picking this unit up. (This is my tax refund at work here.)

Mine cost $875 on eBay. It came in great shape, and works perfectly in my Jeep.

Here's the direct link to the auction I got mine from:

Hurry up, he only has 4 left (at least until the next "shipment" pain3.gif )

thanks for the link, in a few months (once I get the house buying stuff out of the way I'll certainly be giving this a hard thought considering it being under 900

yeah for 875 seems like everything should be included, tell him to send ya the cable!

fm broadcasts with RDS now include the song and artist info and Radio Data System-enabled radios will display this, not all statios are doing this yet tho...the RB1 and RBQ have RDS i dont know about the other mopar radios

http://radio.about.com/library/bldef-108.htm

from crutchfield:
Radio Data System
RDS stands for Radio Data System. RDS tuners can automatically tune in stations according to the style of music (or talk) they broadcast. RDS also enables your receiver to display text messages (usually call letters and format info) that many FM stations include on a subcarrier signal within their normal broadcast signal. Some RDS tuners can even break in with traffic alerts or emergency broadcasts when you're listening to a CD.

in a few years we'll all want new receivers anyways for digital high-definition (HD) AM and FM radio, you'll get stuff like images of the album cover right on your radio display, near cd-quality sound just like sat radio, news, weather, sports scores, web addresses, maybe even time-shifting...hundreds of stations are already broadcasting HD free, we just ned the new receivers to get this signal

No, the cable is a special run from the Sirius receiver. Even if I would have gotten the RB1 from "legitimate" sources, my Sirius install still wouldn't have sent the artist data.

Apparently this "special" cable is only run when Sirius is installed with a CD changer.

Stupid, in my opinion.

And, yes, I get song data from regular FM stations. Just not from Sirius.

i guess that makes sense, DC only installs the cable when there's a factory RB1 in the liberty and not with any of the other factory radios which it wont work with anyways, and when you buy an aftermarket RB1 it doesnt come with the artist/song cable since that's a part of the Sirius install...

fyi for anyone who does want to add it the artist/song cable is

Sirius Satellite Radio/RB1 Audio System Adapter:
For vehicles with an RB1 Navigation Radio and a CD Changer. With this adapter, song title and artist name is shown on radio screen.
Fits Model Years 2003 - 2005. Item # 82208322
Regular price: $30.00, Sale price: $27.00

should be available from your local dealer or most mopar parts sellers

Ok, so if I understand this correctly, if you get just the stock/standard radio/single CD unit in an 05, and you add (factory installed) Sirius (RSA), there's no way to display the artist and song title? #-o Or can this still be done with the appropriate cable? :-k

On a side note, does anyone have an opinion on going factory installed with the standard radio unit? Or should I forgo the factory install and do a sirius/xm install myself later on? :-k

Here's my take on things.

If you get a CD changer when you get Sirius, you'll get installed a DIFFERENT install kit. This kit comes with a multiplexer, which from what I gather, is what's required for the special song/artist cable to be used with.

Its that special cable that gives you the extra song data. However, without the multiplexer, you can't use that cable. And to get a multiplexer, you need to order a CD changer.

My dealer looked at my diagrams I found on-line, and is only ordering me a multiplexer and the necessary cables for the song data. I'm scheduled for an install of this equipment on March 5th.

I don't want a CD changer, so we aren't ordering it or installing one. I just want the multiplexer and the necessary cables.

I'm not going to install this because the cable needs run from the back to the front, and I just don't feel like pulling up the side molding and such to lay this cable and mount the multiplexer. I'd rather pay my dealership to do it.

Now, that said, I think that's a horrible way to get the song data on my RB1. Chrysler/Mopar needs to rethink this wiring situation. You should be able to get the song data with JUST the Sirius install kit. Having to get a CD changer install kit to show the song data is ridiculous.

Man that ebay link is tempting.... But if I would get a GPS it would be for my alpine unit. If I hadn't already changed decks. I probably would buy that gps setup.

I have an RB1 and just installed the Sirius satellite option. I don't have the special artist cable yet.

My question is even without the artist cable should the stereo display the station name and category (ex rock, country, etc)? All I have displayed is the channel number, set, pty and the clock. I see that information in this photo. I was assuming that the artist cable only added the song and artist information.

A possibly related side note is that my CD changer doesn't work either. We bought the Liberty used with a regular single CD stereo and the CD changer looks like it was added later. I was hoping after installing the RB1 the CD changer would start working, but no luck.

Yes, to get the extra song info, you need the artist cable, the multiplexer box, and the other cable that goes to the Sirius reciever. Parts are about $150 from Chrysler direct, and probably slightly cheaper elsewhere on-line.

I've read through all of this and I'm still not quite sure on this. My 05 Liberty has the stock/single cd radio with sirius. I just activated it today and do not see any titles or artist information.

Should I be seeing that info or is there a wire I can get for this or do I need to switch radios?
Thanks!
