Okay, I'm getting conflicting information.

Is it supposed to be 56oz or 70oz??

The factory manual says 4.4 pints, that's 70oz.
But the manual doesn't say if that's with or without trac-loc.

And the Vehicle handbook says, 56oz standard capacity
and 70oz for the 8.25
I know there isn't two different rear axles.

so... Huh?

(Mine- 04 Liberty, auto, 3.7)

I have no idea about the 2.4's, but I wouldn't believe the rear axles would be different. But filling the area until overflows, wouldn't that be dangerous.
You know, the recomendations on not overfilling and all...
Just like you wouldn't keep pouring oil in until you think it's full...

you'd best find a user here that has a Service Manual before you get it wrong and mess up your KJ.

Anyone 'round 'ere have a service manual they can help out with... ANYONE??

Yeah, Dana 35s mated with the first transmission version.

But I'm referring to the 8.25. in the 2004s.
And as for the service manual, that's where I'm getting conflicting information from.
The Manual says 4.4 pints. That's 70 ounces.
The Vehicle hand book says, 56 & 70 ounces. Which one is correct. And as there is no stick to check level, you have to get the right amount of fluid.

70 ounces. the first number has to be for the Dana 35. It's smaller = less fluid necessary.

Well, that's the only sense I can make out of it.

Im going to go ahead and hijack the thread. where the heck do u all get ur diff oil? The 75-140syn im wanting is $18 smacks at the dealer and im not paying for that. I can get 5 gallons of it for $105 but its castrol. I really wanted valvoline but it cost so much, and i cant find it in the 5 gallon containers, just the castrol. what do u all think, get the 5 gallons of castrol, i can use it probably, all three jeeps need a change.

It's 70 ounces if you have the 8.25. TJ sites state 3.5 pints, which converts to 56 ounces. =D> Now change that diff oil! =P~
