Are you talking about the air dam?

When I removed the one on my 2002, it was fairly straightforward. Remove the 4 screws that attach to the bottom of the radiator cross-member, and then drill out either 2 or 4 rivets that attach the air dam to the bumper cover on the each end of the bumper. Once the air dam is out, put back the 4 screws from under the radiator because, on my KJ, they also secure the bottom side of the bumper cover.

Not sure if its an air dam or not I was just trying to figure out what it function actually is. Its basically a black piece of plastic under the frnt bumper its the whole length of the bumper and its about 2in. It would help the front approach a bit with it removed it hangs down that 2inches. As for the upper poster would you mind posting a ink to this write up if you don't mind. I would greatly appreciate it I am not a member of lost. Thanks Also are their any negitive effects of removing this? Cooling issues? I am thinking maybe thats its purpose?

Yep, that's the air dam.

I removed mine back in the spring, and have had no effect on cooling. Temperature range stays the same as it did before (tested via ScanGaugeII). You'll find some people that will advocate against doing it - which is fine - but I've had no issues at all with mine being off.

I used a ditch to rip mine off then used a sawzall to get rid of the rest. No ill effect.

Then........

Even with the split pan on the bumper and the rad skid below the bumper I have yet to see an increase in operating temp.

I removed mine on my 08. I found that when climbing a steep hill, it would act like a snow plow in the dirt, so I took it off and ditched it.

It was really easy to remove. Nothing is left loose when it is removed. It simply snaps into the front fascia.

Here is a pic of mine with the air dam removed.

I haven't had any negative issues since I removed mine nearly 1.5 years ago. It definitely helps with clearance, and in my opinion, appearance of the front of the KK.
