o i went in today to discuss the purchase of a 2008 Liberty Limited. So far this is the best deal $26,500 for a Limited, NAV, Premium 2 Package, Select Trac 4wd and Sunroof.

The salesmen begin to tell me how many Liberty's he sells, "I mean lots of people buy them because they sell themselves" (quote from salesmen). I wanted to make sure this had all the options i wanted, other dealers are quoting me in the $30,000 range for a comparable model.

Questions I asked,
MyGig 20GB or 30 GB? 30 GB, well wait it depends on when it was built ... i'm not sure ... Bill you know about MyGig (yells to the next booth over).

MyGig will I still get the premium sound package (infinity speakers)? Yeah you will get the premium sound package.

Online when I "build" a model it says i need to remove the MyGig / Nav if I want to add the premium sound option. (2nd salesmen scurries away, I'm thinking he's looking it up - nope he just shuffles papers). Salesman looks in his little "blue book" - you get 8 speakers and a subwolfer with MyGig.

I aksed if the 09 Liberty will have the same options that the 09 Nitro has with the MyGig (UGPS, UWIFI, UStudio)? These are two different vehicles many options will not be available on a dodge than a jeep (nitro and liberty are pretty similar last time l looked)

Is UStudio the same a sirius sat radio? No UStudio is something completely different.

Will the Ipod adapter (Mopar accessory) allow me to select my playlists and advance tracks using MyGig? Oh yeah this is already set for an ipod, you just plug it in the AUX slot.

No I am talking about the actual Mopar part will it work with MyGig? Oh yeah that thing I don't know about that it's close to $350 for the part and man we would need to install it in a minimum of 2 hours at our service rate ($90 / hour). Honestly why would you need an ipod when you have MyGig.

I was not really excited with the lack of knowledge being presented at this point and said I would be back after i researched the vehicle a bit more. I was then interrogated about what I meant by "research". I simply said I would try to find out about the size of the MyGig system, Infinity Speakers, and possibility of getting WIFI added.

Then I was given the pitch ... it's the end of the month and our incentives will be gone November so we will need to get this here right away in the morning (it's at another dealership). We will need to sign for it tomorrow. Lets put a deposit on it tonight. I asked how much, $1500 to $2000 should be fine. I said I like the price, I will get back to you tomorrow about what we plan on doing. Like I said this deal will expire come November.

Questions I Have

MyGig in an 08 Liberty what size is the Hard Drive?

MyGig / Nav will I have infinity speakers?

Does the MyGig / Nav with Sirius Traffic show overlay of traffic congestion on the map or simply traffic times?

Does the MyGig / Nav show gas prices at select gas stations (does it show gas stations?)

Does the MyGig / Nav do weather? (I saw this on a ford escape today - the escape handled like crap)

Does the Ipod Integration Kit work with MyGig (am I able to use the touch screen to navigate songs and playlists)?

Is the radio in a 09 Nitro different than the 08 Liberty? Can UGPS, UStudio, UWIFI work with a 08 radio? Isn't the U-Name just re-branding the product?

Oh another note ... So was the "get the vehicle here tomorrow" a tactic or will a dealer do what it has to sell a vehicle even if it isn't the next day and it goes into november?

I just bought an '08 Liberty Limited here in Post Falls, ID 5 days ago and the one my wife wanted was on a Jeep lot 2 hours south of us, in Lewiston, ID.

They brought it up in less than two days for us to buy. Sent for it on Sunday, picked it up monday afternoon.

I'm an Army recruiter so I 'get' the whole sales thing. I'm sure the dealership you're talking to goes month to month on sales and sounds like they really wanted to squeeze one last one in before it rolls over to the next month. Always remember, you're the customer and you need to get what you want/need.

P.S. - I want to mention just for GP...

Something I noticed, the dealership I went through (i'm sure others do it too) artificially moved up the decision 'phaseline' on the customer, it seemed. The salesperson wants you to make the decision at his/her desk, rather than away from all the stress and pressure, on your own time. Remember - if the Jeep is no longer there, you can always order exactly what you need anyway.

When you go into financing to sign all the paperwork, it's your RIGHT to take that final sales contract home to look it over. It even says it in every car contract I've ever looked at. Just above that, it mentions that once the contract is signed, there is no cooling off period and the sale is a done-deal at that point.

DON'T sign anything! Take it home and look it over. Make the decision at home without the pressure and stress. Just because the finance person does all that work, doesn't mean you should feel like you owe them by having to buy the car. It's their JOB to write up the contract and allow you to take it away from there, to look it over.

Wow, so the entire conversation was about the audio options? I remember a time when a guy would go to his local stereo shop to get what he wants installed and save a bunch of money. I guess times change and it's a good thing I am out of the business!

I have a basic rule. If a salesperson pressures you into an answer- the answer is always "no". The moment the pressure comes on, the default answer is always "no".

I actually use that in every facet of life.

"Honey, if we're going to get married, we should do it now."

Default answer: No.

You will go far in life with that philosophy. Your wallet fatter, your time freer, your stress lower.

Priceless info jnaut.

OP......I know you are checking the net, etc for info, but the one thing most people don't think about is to get the sales brochure at the dealer for the KK (or any vehicle you are looking at). It has an awful lot of info in it including vehicle specs and standard and optional packages etc. It is all laid out in the booklet. Sometimes it is nice to have it in a booklet form.

Also there are other dealers, and end of the month sales are every month. There will also be an end of the year sale coming up real quick.

Good luck and don't settle for less than you want and let us know how you make out.

Dave.

This is a quote from the salesmen as he hands me a booklet "lots of time they print these booklets in advance and many items change as to what is actually in the vehicle".

Chrysler has historically stopped incentives after October. Whether they will do it this year is unknown. It certainly happened last year... the year before that... and the year before that. But it all depends on the vehicle.

I just read in my Yahoo! news that October was the slowest this year for new car sales. That might also come into play as to why there was some pressure.
