Selec trac/4x4 system

Hi guys!

I have the selec trac system on my 2007 Cherokee/liberty 2.8 crd

I engaged 4 full time yesterday in heavy rain, it works fine however gave a few crunch noises on acceleration but after a while this stopped? This has made me wonder does the system need to be used often to stop things seizing etc?

Most of the bits rotate in 2WD without carrying any power, check the front propshaft CV joint, the rubber gator often fails and lets mud and sand into the joint.
