I was wondering what the best shocks would be for a 2005 Jeep Liberty that would fit pretty much perfectly without any issues. The previous shocks I’ve got had the smaller mount thinner than the original shocks and it caused too much noise and was too much hassle to try to fix. I don’t need them for any off roading or anything rough just typical driving. The original shocks go down fairly easily and don’t come up like they should so I figured it’s time for a change.

I've got KYBs on mine, they have been fine. I don't think you will have any issues from any of the big manufacturers, just avoid unknown cheap rubbish.

The ones I had were duralast which seem to not be the best. My main concern is the width of the top and bottom mounts, was there anything you added to help make them fit or would they be fine?

The ones I’m looking at are these from AutoZone:
KYB Excel-G Shock 344404

Washers are easy to add if the shock eye is narrow.
Alright. Another thing is the duralast shocks had the bottom mount too thin and washers didn’t seem to hep and I didn’t want to have the same issue if I bought new ones. Could the shocks be making noise because of the quality? I’ve heard duralast doesn’t seem to be the best quality and is more of a economical option

I'm not familiar with your choice in shocks.

Shocks shouldn't make any rattling noises, providing the bolt fits the eye, and there's no lateral gap between eyelet and mount.

KYB or Bilstein shocks and struts are some of the best in quality, ride and longevity for stock applications.

The rubber bushing can wear down to the point where a gap appears between the mounting eye's inner sleeve and the rubber bushing.
When this happens, it's time to replace the shock itself.
However, the noise can be silenced by replacing it with a spindle-shaped tapered bushing.
The oil inside the shock is sheared every time it moves, so it deteriorates in about 5 years.
You will get a greater impact if you replace the shock after about 7 years of use.
