Hello all,

New to the forum having picked up an '08 Liberty a few months back. Had a new '95 Wrangler (or YJ as there were known in Canada) before and thought it was time to ditch the euro cars and get back to a Jeep. Love the Liberty - hate the mileage - but I don't drive that much so no big deal.

I did come across a site the other day talking about the propensity of the 3.7 engine to build up a lot of sludge and was wondering if any members here have insight into this. I didn't come across anything in this forum and my hope is that those that claim to have blown their engines in this manner are at fault by not doing regular oil changes.

For the '08 the manual states that oil changes are scheduled for every 10,000 kilometers (6200 miles) or six months. I typically drive less than this in a six month period so I will basically be changing twice a year with about 14,000 kms (8,000 miles) for the entire year. I have and will continue to get the Liberty serviced at the dealer.

So, for you experts out there, is this sludge thing a real problem and should I consider increasing the frequency of oil changes?

Thanks.
Scott
