Spacers

I am a fan of the wide stance look on vehicles. I couldn't really find anything on spacers, so i was wondering if anyone has tried them and how they did. i read a few things where people had said that their wheel came off while they were going down the road.

Many have tired few have ran them for a while
If unlifted then no way to run them or wider wheels really
If lifted just as cheap to buy the properly spaced wheels and be done ( 16 X 7 with 4 inches of backspacing)
Sitting the wheel / tire combo out too far on a KJ will only create issues with rubbing ( when lifted)

Been running spacer adapters since since Sep. 2011 with no issues, as anticipated. But then, I used custom fit billet aluminum hub centric adapters, not some cheapass ones. They're not going to break, unless maybe I jump it off a cliff, and not going to come off because I used loctite on the axle studs. The main reason why I used them is I wanted to keep my body color matched Renegade wheels. Now if you use substandard adapters, or practice shoddy workmanship, then you can't be surprised if something bad might happen somewhere down the road.

It's good to know what you're buying, mine were made in the good ol USA, dealt directly with the manufacturer. That broken one sure looks like cast aluminum to me. Stay away from those types. Some of the cheap adapters on ebay may or may not say billet, or aren't even if they say they are.
Second pic, that setup looks fine to me, what's the problem there? :happy175:

Well I am confused, are you saying it will rub with or without a lift?

Also, i guess i kind of like the pre-runner look. More so than rock crawler i guess. BTW have you guys seen that CRD that BDS suspension modified for ultimate adventure? thing is sweet.

unlifted you will rub with spacers
wheels sticking out is not a pre runner look at all , only a ricer look
Yes have seen was there during the build, was invited to come up to the skunk works building
First trip outside for the BDS KJ , mine sitting in the forground

I love that Jeep. However it REALLY needs a bumper.

Little bit of difference between a well built SFA with full widths etc than some one just throwing spacers on to try and achieve some sort of look :shrug::happy175:

I have 1.5" SpiderTrax, Frankenlift, & 245/70/17 tires. I had issues with rubbing the front, & with the pinch weld mod no issues in the rear. After the bumper i had no more problems in the front, what i did before then was a combination of trimming and melting the plastic with a heat gun, then it was alright. They have been perfectly normal so far, and i wanted that wider stance. Wheels are just past flush now, they were indented previously.

Yes, because when you bring them out when the wheels turn in they will rub the front.

I'm sure you're aware that the wheels have to move up and down and steer with suspension travel and if your backspacing is wrong your tires will hit either the flares, the suspension components, or some part of the fender liner (especially if you haven't done the pinch seam fix)...

It may look ok and do ok just sitting in the driveway or straight-lining down the boulevard but sooner or later you will have to turn the wheels and/or hit bumps...:gr_grin:

Totally my fault, but i forgot to mention the fron of my KJ has no more plastic. i Removed the plastic "bumper" fender flares and liners. it looks rough but i am going to fix that.

it actually doesn't look quite as bad as you are probabl thinking. i have gotten a couple compliments on it. However, like i said it does look a little rough. I am a fan of kind of a beatun up, basic 4x4 look though.

Trust me I've seen them without, just looks like you've wrecked it and don't have the $$$ for the repairs

Just for the record, with 16" wheels having 4" of backspacing being the bees knees, then using adapters gets you the same results.
My factory wheels have 5 3/8" b.s.. My 1.5" adapters gives them an adjusted b.s. of 3 7/8".

I mean an 1/8th of an inch really isnt that big of a difference. But you could just spend the thirty extra dollars and buy the correct backspaced wheels like everyone else runs. Like the Cragar Soft 8's. Everyone and their mom runs them on their Jeeps. Thats just my two cents
