Speedometer started jumping around the other day and then quit . brake light and ABS light are on . Code reader is P500 . I found where the brake cable had been rubbing and thought I found the problem .. No broken wires visible . Took wrap off all the way to the top of the loom . No help around to run key so I took a chance and just bought the sensor for $15 and replaced it . I lost . didn't fix anything after test drive . Cruise light comes on , but does not work and did before . can;t find any fuses with a problem . any ideas ?

thank you

What year/model KJ do you have? Speedometer definitely gets its input from the sensor on top of the rear diff on early models.....the wiring and the connectors on this sensor are known to give problems.

Brake light being ON and Cruise control not working could be bad Brake Switch under the brake pedal....it actually has three switches inside it....once removed this switch assembly has to be replaced with new one!

Once we know the year/model we can climb into the wiring diagrams....you will need a cheap Digital Multi meter!

sorry I should have included it is a 2002 . By brake light on I mean the warning light on the dash . When the speedometer started jumping around the Brake and ABS dash lights came on . After I replaced that sensor and went for a drive I checked the cruise and found it did not work either . Everything had worked up until this point .

thank you

with multi meter w key on E off .344- .377 ? moved around . engine running .45?

Looks like no voltage getting there . meter read 12.45 on the battery so it is working . I see no exposed wires all the way up to the point were the harness meets and goes into the body .

Do you have a long enough test lead to reach the negative terminal on the battery and put the positive lead in the WSS connector?
Did you put both prongs in the connector?
I find it easiest to use alligator clips for male connectors, and I put small test probes into female ones... if you don't have them, you can put small straightened paperclips in them and test off the clips.

But I believe that is a male connector right? You're sure you had each test lead against both prongs? Easy to think you're on both and one is slightly off..

Anyways if you're positive it's not getting voltage though (dvom set to 20DC Volts).. then all there is to do.. is trace wires..

I did do the paper clip into the ( female ) harness connector with alligator clips clamping the probe to the clip . I will rig up a lead to the battery and give it another shot just to help eliminate an error in connection . ... I hate wires

Thank you
