Hello From Vancouver, the WET coast. That does look real good. Can you elaborate how the install went? Where does it mount to? Did you have to modify bumper? Some photos would be nice if possible please. The wiring to the battery.. with interior switch?
When I installed Setina Police PB-400 push bars the metal around the front tow hooks was quite weak, and had to modify add metal/welding to make the push bar strong enough for real pushing.
Have you tried pulling yourself from a tree with that unit? Testing is good..to ensure strength and "working" properly.

Looks great :) just watch yourself with a front hitch and side pulls, if you use it keep it straight.

Its a front reciever mount . I put it on last year (lots of pull with it so far) .No cutting or anything to bunper and bolted up perfectly . Just put the winch on today (never tried it yet with a pull) . The winch came with the hole kit even a snatch pulley/block. Hook up power was feed 2 wires up through to battery pos and neg terminals.

I wouldnt order a rustys coil lift if you want to keep that winch on the front w/o sagging issues you would be much better off with OME HD coils on the front and rear

yes don't buy Rustys and if you do just know you have been warned!

Also like liv42dy stated , make sure you have good straight pulls when you use it.

Its a front reciever mount . quote]

Murray.....Put a locking hitch bolt on it then. Too many jerks out there and it would be too easy for someone to take it. At least with a locking bolt it would make it more difficult.

Course you could always take it off when you were just going back and forth to work or something, and throw it on for the weekend when you were going off road, but that could become a pain.

Just a thought.

Good day,
Jen and I have the same winch sitting in our mud room!
I don't want a front receiver mount on our KJ due to the fact that it places the winch down much lower to the mud; making it lower down to the ground and more of a pain in the a$$ to pay out the cable and hook it to something. We are saving our pennies for at least one of those "Detour" set-ups and if all goes well and ARB or TJM bumper.
That 2 inch front receiver looks too jingkus if you have to pull from anything but from directly in front of you.
The reason I say this, is that I/we screwed around with it on a friends F350 4X4 just for kicks and I didn't like what I say or heard for that matter!
(Sorry, I didn't take any pictures, we were too busy holding out beer!) :)
Not to mention that the whole winch and winch cradle add to the over all weight being suspended over the vehicles suspension out in front of the KJ. Making the the front suspension "droop" and affecting the vehicles off road and on road manners. (That is of course my personal opinion and I don't have any real documented statistics to prove one way or an other! Other than the the fact that I've been 4X4'ing for the the last 25 years!)
But indeed, if you remove the winch when not in use and only have it installed when off roading, then you will not experience this issue!

But, if you wanna be a posser...Rock on!

looks good... but just not for my situation.. when you need a winch it might not be there (even though you have it).. but that's a good aspect too. i dont like how it puts the winch real low... can really hurt approach angles.. and you cant get it in when the receiver is in or packed with mud. just like everything.. up's and downs.. to each is own

you are 100% correct in saying that it will be so full of mud if even still there after a ride
that is an emergency only set up and not good for much else
while I would like to have a winch there is a better way
I have a winch plate for a TJ ,free bee, and plan to modify it to hold a winch in the class with the M8 ,remove the box and mount it under the hood
then mount the winch up side down
I will not use an M8 due to the handle issue but Tabor uses a knob in place of the handle
and the fact that I hate mud I will only need it when the hill is to slick

now back to the hitch mounted winch
also added weight ,the further out you put it the more stress it puts on the springs ,leaver system, tucking it behind the bumper to me will save a lot of
spring stress
and the approach angle proof is on its way

while i was installing my ARB i was thinking about ways to use a normal winch plate and it is def. possible.. really easy actually. if you just look at the ARB instructions it would only take you a few hours to make it work.. then cut your bumper to re install.

Ok
I have posted these pics a bunch over on lost and they are old but I have not been back to these trails in a while so no new ones
any how with a hitch mounted winch you could not go down this hill
and if it were raining you would need it to go up this hill
how ever you would need to get part way up the hill
then put the winch in while slipping on your **** in the mud
seems like a good idea but just not practical for trail ridding

and for the record
that was my wife driving and we ran that trail on ATS's
and yes we did go through water that was up to and over the head lights even mad it on to the hood, look at the second pic
we have not been back post lift and MTR's

Yes, this has been discussed before. Another advantage to mounting the winch higher is that you can put it on before you start wheeling and it does not affect your approach angle. With the front hitch you leave the winch off until you need it or it interferes with your approach angle. The disadvantage to this is in a 'what if' situation, like in the picture above, where you are stuck in mud and have to carry an 80+ib winch/mount up a slippery hill.

Note: it is also possible to winch yourself from behind with a front winch if you have lots of anchor points and pulleys. http://home.off-road.com/~landy/winchback.htm

The problem is that the trail goes forward
when it hits going up on the front it will probably drag in the back
in the first pic we did not need a winch ,gravity
in the second pic we did not need a winch but if it were raining NO ONE would have made it under their own power ,narrow and slick
pulling down hill is not needed ,gravity, but you 99% of the time need a pull up hill which means you would need to carry a winch up a hill that you could not drive up
