Ok, we discussed oil change cost, how about inspection cost? for those states require inspection.

I just paid $39 for a simple ODBII scan and a sticker for State Government Emissions and Safety Inspection.

I think I paid $30 for the last emissions test I had done... but, that was about ten years ago, in CO, on a Chevy Celebrity. One great reason to live in Wyoming: You can drive ANYTHING:

Michigan Emissions Test: $0
Michigan Safety Inspection: $0

Great, eh?

Oh wait, we don't have any tests. lol3.gif

But I think a safety inspection wouldn't hurt considering the crap people drive around this state.... I had a car at work today without a tail light... and a bunch of other stuff wrong with it. I ran out of space to write down damages...

Interesting to see what codes are showing up with the CEL...always wondered how many codes it'd throw w/o a cat :D

It doesnt have any codes. The I-6 engine only has an 02 sensor before the cat and not after, so it doesnt know its not there.

It does have a check engine light for the evap. It says a leak detection pump isnt working.

What year is the grand? I know the older 4.0's do have a post-cat o2 sensor, but I believe that changed after 2000.

Its a 03. I didnt see an 02 sensor after the cat and its not giving any codes for it? Idk?

It might not have one. I know in 2000 they did a bunch of new stuff on the 4.0 to help it meet the tougher (at the time) emissions requirements, and i'm almost positive eliminating the post-cat o2 sensor was one of them. On the other hand, they put like 4 o2 sensors before the cat when they did redesign it

We dont have an emissions test..other counties around me do and that is about $20.00

As for state inspections..ours is 15.00 but we always get coupons in the paper for 7.00 off or 5.00 off so around 8.00 is what we pay..:)

for arizona you dont need emissions untill your vehicle reaches a certain age and i dont remember but i think the $300+ registration fee covers it.

No, you have to pay separately for the emissions test, it's around $20. But you don't have to do it for the first five years of the vehicles life.

For a inspection here in PA it's a total of $50. $30 for the standard inspection and $20 for the emissions. Now If you have a diesel, there is no emissions test.

My girlfriend Lucks out with her car because is a 1981 Benz 300CD Turbo Diesel and that thing probably has a bigger carbon foot print than my Jeep. :p

wow, I always thought the US was very ******* the emissions? Or is that only in California?

Over here we pay $ 70 which includes emission check for diesel engine...

We are messed up over here. Every State is different. And in some States even the counties have different requirements. Some places don't have inspections or emissions tests. My Son is in Florida in Seminole County (I think) and said that there was no inspections there. California is one of the strictest due to the smog problems in Los Angeles.
