Stereo cutting out

My factory stereo has had a habit of quitting after lengthy use, like on a long trip. There would be a slight lessening of volume and then nothing. If I would turn off the unit and then turn it back on there would only be a click heard through the speakers and then nothing. The only thing that really works is to let it cool off. Almost seems like there is a circuit breaker or fuse that gets too hot and then trips.

Now it happens pretty much all of the time with the front speakers and I end up having only the rears working. I just have the standard am/fm with cd and factory speakers.
