Folks I have an 05 Limited that is giving me fits. Below is the story from start to finish.

Started with no brake lights on the L/R tail lights. I checked the fuses (actually ohmed them), I replaced the bulbs, I replaced the sockets because they looked fried, and I even replaced the switch out of desperation. Did not fix the issue. However, I still had tail lights, blinkers, and reverse.

That after noon I pulled out the volt meter again and checked the voltage at the canon plug on the tail light assembly. I had all the voltages required on the plug. I reconnected the canon plug to the assembly and tested the sockets. I did not have the voltage on the socket when the brakes were applied. So, I figured the Circuit card was bad due to the overheating. I received the same conditions on both the left and right side. I thought it was odd that both failed, but both were really crispy and the jeep is 12 years old, so maybe. I put everything back together with plans to buy a new assembly.

I readjusted the seat to drive and boom, I had one tail light, both break lights, and the dash lights only worked when I pressed the brake. So, I figured maybe the harness under the seat is messed up and somehow shorting things out. Got under the seat, everything looked fine. Re-checked the socket in the back to see if maybe a pin was twisted. Put everything back together and now I still only have one tail, both brakes, and NO dash lights at all...even when I press the break. rechecked the fuses for the dash lights and they are good.

I traced as much of the wiring I could, nothing looked bad. I am at a complete loss. HAs anyone else seen this? or anything remotely like this?

Any help is welcome

look under the dash and make sure that all of the connections are secure. This includes making sure that the BCM's connections are not loose at all.

If you have no cluster lights at all...including left/right indicators or hazard then the main suspect is the Ground going to the cluster....a Black/Light Blue wire.

You can temporary splice a wire onto this Black/Light Blue wire and fix it onto a clean chassis point.

If those above cluster lamps work but not much else then it could be a problem with the PCI Bus which drives those lamps....this bus unfortunately goes all over the place!

Check fuses #34 15 A, #7 10 A, #9 10 A and #13 10 A in the fuse box inside the cabin.

For problems with rear lamps likewise check not only the +12 volts going to the sockets but also the ground for the sockets. The leads for the rear lamps go through C310 which is a Light Grey color connector in the Right Rear Quarter Panel.
