Reading mixed reviews on all Gates and Dayco belts. Right now I have Dayco PolyRib V that's done well, so likely will get that again, unless someone says otherwise.

Same for tensioners, found some reports of both Dayco and Gates using Chinese parts. True for the KJ part?

I can get a Mopar one for $47, thinking that's the best option but it would take longer to get here.

The gates tensioner is made by the Canucks.

I use a Dayco belt as well.

No idea where it's made, but I've been using a Dayco tensioner for about 8K miles now, and it's perfectly fine so far.

Going to get the Gates. Is this the right PN for the tensioner? 39120
Belt (Gates) would be K060863.

Does the Gates have the 76mm and 90mm pulley? Not sure what mine has. I think they're both the same.

Gates has 76mm pulleys. So their belt should be fine too. (Part #s above for anyone else trying to figure this out). Also the tensioner has a lifetime warranty, at least through rock auto.

....fun fact, KJ uses the same belt as some early 90s Cadillacs. It'd be more fun to go to an autopart store to ask for a belt for a 91 Fleetwood than placing an order on rockauto. :D

I was looking for that thread then I got sidetracked in an older one with JeepJeepster being the OP. Lots of fun info!

The Gates 76mm one is $40 from rockauto...and the belt is $18. Think it's $25 on amazon. Since I live in WI I have to pay sales tax with rockauto (I think amazon too? idk) but the 5% JKJ code about offsets it. Plus these must be in their warehouse 2 hours from me so I'll get them next day.

Buy the best EPDM belt & it wont go snap like the rest! :whip:

Gates tensioner is made in Canada and good quality.
The EPDM (same as factory belt) is the best material (pretty much bullet proof)
and under features & Advantages mentions it's an EPDM. click on K060863 Link to expand it. http://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comergent/en/US/adirect/gates?cmd=catSearchFrame&domProductQueryName=K060863*&returnURL=http://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comergent/en/US/adirect/gates&returnTarget=_top&gotoAdvSearch=false

Same as sn95 v6 mustangs that have underdrive pulleys too :gr_grin:

Good to know, so if I end up trading the KJ in for an early 90s Caddy or one of those Mustangs I can switch my belt over. :happy175:

Thanks! Very much appreciated. Saw the rust on yours in that thread and mine don't have any rust...they're just muddy. :gr_grin:

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
From my personal and work experience...........

Tensioner's................

OEM = junk(went through 3 in 2 years)

Daystar = OEM(for Chrysler) but slightly better not being made to OEM specs

Gates = Best so far

Belts...........

OEM = Best,EPDM construction

Gates = Just as good as OEM,also EPDM

All other not EPDM construction = Junk

Thanks for chiming in! Was hoping you'd see this.

There isn't even a Mopar belt for sale anymore. So Gates/Gates it is!

The Gates EPDM one is $18 from Rockauto, $35 locally. Figured the $18 is good considering I don't have a commercial account anywhere.
