Has anyone else had a problem with the sidewall flaking off and showing a white ring all the way around? This was happening on my 2005.

That is a new one for me. Sounds like a tire defect. I have had many sets of tires on many vehicles and never had a sidewall just flake off.

The KJ's have come with different tires. Which ones were they??

Happens to any tire with raised white letters when you scrub the curbs alot
nothing you can do now but turn them black out

This is why I always say black out when people ask
you should see what happens when you take tires like that out trail riding

quit letting the GF/Wife drive! thats how i got mine to stop doing that! :D

It's her Jeep, I drive a Cherokee. I swear though that she never parks near curbs, or drives on them, I've seen a lot of the KJ's around SE Michigan with the same problem, now the dealership wants to charge us for it on a trade in and I want to call B.S.

I too have seen a lot around SE Michigan. It could possibly be due to the salt on the roads during the winter. I wish there was a good answer other than "Stop scrapping curbs". Oh, have you used any tire cleaner on them?

Why is it only that front right usually though? And why is it seen so much in SE Michigan? Makes me think that the stack of tires going on the front right at the assembly line were messed up.

The right front seems to get it the worst because thats the tire that takes the most beating when attempting to parallel park, especially the incorrect way by pulling forward into the spot and then backing up as opposed to pulling past the spot and then backing in.

But my wife would suck at parrallel parking, so I know she wouldn't even try it, then she gets to park in a driveway and never near the sidewalk. So unless the sidewall came off on the 3 times in the vehicles life that I might have driven it and parked near a curb, I have to believe it's something else. I can't believe no one else has had this problem.

i have never had it however im in indiana. I have SEEN it alot on vehicles around here. Ive been thinking about this thread and cant think of any good explanations besides... maybe the tire plant that supplies your area *****...
maybe something to do with the sandy soil... just thoughts.

ITs the curb , no bad tires, no just happening in Michigan, no tire cleaner, its when she parks at her boyfriends house and is in a hurry and she hits the curb, plain and simple that is all that does it, either that or you have 2.5 lbs of air in the tire!

I agree on the curb comment if it's just one tire.

I will say that at 11k miles, I could see a little peeling around the letters on my SR-A's. That happened after one time of trail-riding in sand and hard dirt - no rocks.

If it's just the one tire and the dealer is trying to beat you up on a trade-in or something, put the spare on there and go to discount tire and ask for a used one. They should have something you can use as a spare, and all tires on the ground will match. The one at 18 and Van **** should have 5 recently procured SR-A's with 11k miles on them ;)
