Transmission Dies After 1st Gear

Well, that's it. The 2005's transmission finally died with 170,000 miles of city driving.

Still strong in first and reverse. As soon as it tries to shift into 2nd, it loses it all and goes to neutral. Then you have to turn off the ignition and turn it back on the get first gear again, and then only to 10 MPH. Then it pops back into neutral.

Short of a new transmission, any thoughts on fixing this failure?

Is there an error code of P07**?

The only error codes tell me that it's in the wrong gear for the speed, etc... I'll try to dig deeper into it with Jeep transmission codes, but I don't expect much.

This is a bummer. If it is dead, maybe you could swap in a 42RLE with fewer miles on it.

Could just be a Trany speed sensor failure telling the trany the input & output speeds dont comput, check your codes before you panic.
