Transmission fluid dipstick empty ?

I just bought a '06 KJ 2.8 CRD and while checking the engine today I looked at the transmission fluid dipstick and there was nothing in it when I pulled it out. I then added 1L of "Liqui Moly Transmission Fluid", waited a few hours and checked the dipstick again; same result - as if there is no fluid at all in it.

Should I be worried and go check on a service or just add some more? I've driven the Jeep like that for the past two days, could I have caused any damage?

ATF-4 is what you need to put in it. I wouldn't drive it until the dipstick shows the correct amount of oil.

Thank you for the reply! Is it wrong if I now add ATF-4 on top of the fluid I already put in yesterday, or should I change it all?

To be safe, Id drain it all and refill. That way you know you're getting the correct fluid, and that you can refill to factory fill specs.

I hope you are using a factory original dip stick. Then yes, it is to be trusted for level, and hope the ****** is ok. Always use OEM ATF-4 fluid.

You do know that you check it with the engine running and warm after you cycle the ****** through the gears?

Personally, I suck the fluid out of the dipstick tube and replace 3 quarts every couple of oil changes. With the non-CRD v6 I suck about 3.25 quarts out of the dipstick tube. Might be worth the investment to get fluid extractor.

Agree. Works on all cars and trucks, and is cheaper than new pans for all. Smart.
