under hood light?

is there supposed to be one? was it optional? my KJ has a ground wire from the hood to the fender...and a cutout on the passenger side for what looks like a light. is that right?

Mine has that wire as well.

Mine is a 2005 Limited with everything but the kitchen sink. I would assume that if mine didn't have that option, none of them did.

Just a guess though.

Has anyone mounted one? Mopar has some underhood mercury lights that I was curious to try.

I see one listed in the FSM.
A good LED strip light and a water proof push button switch will do the trick.

I don't lift the hood at night...
Can't see anything under there anyway!
If something needs immediate attention it can wait till daybreak.
I'll just smoke a doobie and call it a night right at the side of the trail and sit back and veg and chill out!

I know the Export models come with a switch on the RHS looking from inside the cab which senses that the hood is ajar....not sure if USA models have this switch.

Would be easy to modify this switch to turn on a small lamp when lifting the hood.

My 04 doesn't have one, however Some TJ's and YJ's came with them and I have noticed on my TJ (which doesn't have one) there is a plug for one.. Maybe KJ's have that option too.

they did a under the hood light on the WJ but never seen one on a KJ you could do this

Above is my underhood light,portable also,and doubles as a very brutal weapon also.So bright no need to actually aim at where you want to see underneath the hood,just lay in on airbox and it more then lights up the whole enginebay nicely.

I just have a LED flashlight with ahook and magnet in my glove box and a bigger one in my trunk, that do the trick when I need to open the hood at night. and ca stick almost anywhere on the car
