So I came across this site and hoping you guys can help with answers other forums haven't.... I want to install a lockbox as i am in the process of getting my CCL and am not allowed to go on campus with my firearm. So I want to install a lockbox and to my surprise with all the liberty's I see driving there isn't one made I came across one for the JK that looks similar to how the Drivers side seat is mounted on my KJ 2003 Liberty over here
I'm looking to preferably have something that bolts under my seat, preferably would not like to have to drill through the frame as I don't have the necessary tools (I'm building my tools up slowly but I am a college kid who likes to off-road as well from time to time in my lifted Liberty) and if I had to go about doing that I would have to take it to a shop that will do that for me.
Thanks guys for any help!

Good luck, mine is made out of 1/4 inch hardened steel and bolted to the frame. Then bed lined over it.

To be honest, stick it under the dash infront of the center consol. Thats where mine goes 90% of the time when i cant carry, ie VFW or School.

that slot is occupied by something else. It's not deep enough for my pistol. But I am trying to see does anyone know if a JK and KJ are similar where the seat mounts?

In my home state of WI, we cannot carry a weapon in the vehicle with ammunition IN it. ammunition must be stored out of reach (i.e., gun up front, ammo all the way back, etc.)

and you can't store the ammo in the same lock box as the gun.

The basic concept is that the owner of the gun cannot reach the ammo and the gun from the front seat. Prevent drivebys etc.

sorta makes sense, unless you're getting mugged.

I know I'm not really answering your question, but if you want any kind of real security I would stay away from that 16ga box you posted. 16ga is pretty wimpy, less than 1/16" thick...someone could pry their way into that fairly easily. Like 4x4Kayak said, his is 1/4" hardened...that is probably a bit overkill, but I definitely wouldn't go with anything less than 11ga (1/8") ...3/16 is probably best.

Yes i totally agree, but it was free materials so why not....but i saw a guy use a small bionic gun safe that was mounted under the passenger seat, mounts were made of thick plate bolted to the seat mounts. Yes it could be removed but mine will have to be cut out. Or just steal the whole jeep

Same applies to here in PA, until the owner has CCL. Then it's Allowed. It's amazing what $20 for a card with your name on it can do lol

Why not take measurements of where you want to mount your lock box and seek one out by dimensions rather then vehicle specific?

The OP is in the process of obtaining his CCL or in Ohio a CHL - concealed carry permit. What you cite above is not applicable to one with a concealed carry permit in Ohio (nor in WI if I read correctly).

All I can add is if you mount under the drivers seat be careful, lot of wires under there. Don't ask how I know :)
