I just posted about my EVIC turning off after a few minutes or when I turn my lights on. I don't know if I have the power for it hooked into something that alters the voltage or something but...
I have an amplifier for my radio too. Now, when driving, the amp will switch off randomly and the evic will go blank. To temporarily fix this I have to turn the ignition off and then back on. I used a voltmeter to test the voltage from where I have the evic spliced in. it goes to around 8 volts when I switch on the parking/headlights. I'm thinking bad ground somewhere. It might be my amp. that's the only think I can think of. could a bad ground cause the voltage to drop like that for certain things? the headlights don't seem dim or anything. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I would get power for the evic from somewhere else.

For the amp, does it shut off if youve been running it hard or does it just shut off when its not being used much? Some amps will have a thermal shut off so the amp could just be over heating.

Where did you get power for the amp from?

Ground should ALWAYS go to a metal ground. Don't tap into existing wiring for a ground. That's my opinion.

the amp has a direct fused line from the battery. it gets turned on and off by a remote wire that is connected to the accessory wire on the factory radio. (So when radio is on, amp is on etc.). The amp is grounded under the seat to one of the seat bolts. The EVIC is grounded to pin number 4 on the code scanner connector which is a ground and the power is connected to something under the dash. Just happened to be convienient to use. I'm going to try changing both connectors on the evic I think. I'll move the power and ground somewhere else. My only concern is getting the correct type of power source. in that I mean one that is only powered when ignition is on. I do believe that is the correct way to do it, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for the help so far.

Like its been said, always get ground from a metal part of the Jeep, not from a wire.

Not to sure whats going on with the amp. If its not a bad ground or + the amp may just be bad.

Well, I ran myself a ground directly from the battery into the driver's side area. I used this as the ground and hooked the power up to fuse 31. I'm unsure at this time if 31 turns on and off with ignition (its for the rear defroster so it should). EVIC is working good though and seems to be working as it should. The reason I ran a ground is that I can't really seem to find a good ground anywhere. At least I guess I don't recognize a good ground. It seems like there isn't much metal exposed. I might just put a grounding post on the ground wire I ran from the battery. Then I'll have a ground for whatever else I plan to add. I suppose I should get one of those add-a-fuse things and do it right. Anyway, seems to have fixed the problem. Also the homelink works with the key out. It must get power from something else.
Can anyone with a factory installed EVIC confirm if their homelink works without the key? Thanks for the help everyone.
