So I finally hooked up the Light bar switch on. (have the last parts of the lightbar on the way) My jeep came prewired as other exports did. :D

I switched it on... and noticed this..

Is it normal for both the lightbar indicator light and the high beam light to be on at the same time?

My high beams were off but the light indicator was on. When I turned them on the lightbar switched off automatically.

I can only have the lightbar on with low beams. Not with running lights and not high beams. This is how it was set up by the factory.

Any ideas?

kopkrab.gif It does say that both indicator lights will be on.
But it doesn't seem right. Why would the high beam indicator light be on since the high beams are off? kopkrab.gif

Well perhaps it's to let ya know that the lightbar lights act like high beams. In other words, don't use them with oncoming traffic.

The high beam indicator comes on because of safety regulations. The light bar is only "supposed" to be on when off-road, not when on the street or highway. The high beam indicator with the light bar indicator indicates you are blinding people with high-beam lights, when they are coming in your direction. In Pa, if a state trooper catches you with your roof lights on, while on the highway, you're going to get a ticket, easily. If you buy aftermarket ones, and install them; in PA: they have to be covered. They can even ticket you, IF THEY'RE BORED, for not having the covers on.

A friend of mine, with aftermarket lighting, was caught with the covers not on ALL the way, kinda like hanging off? They pulled him over, made him cover the lights, then "test" the lights, to be sure you can't see them ON through the cover. The cop sat there, and didn't tell him WHEN to turn them off as the covers melted to the lenses. THEN the cop said, you can go now, the covers are sufficient; but you may want to replace them. Here in PA, they just don't like roof mounted lighting. People are hassled all the time just for having them uncovered, let alone get caught with them ON while not off-road.

I am surprised there are not covers for the Liberty light bar lenses. If there were, you' have to have them on in PA. They want to be sure those lights can't be used, or seen ON when just regular driving. PA is run like a communist country...

There are covers that come with them, I guess everyone just loses them, mine are on right now.

It is weird your lightbar wont work with your highbeams. My lights work in any combo: lightbar, brights, foglights.

Also when my lightbar is on the brights indicator does not light up. Are you sure all the wires are connected correctly? Mine came stock so I don't know how it's wired together, but maybe look at that if it is a major concern.

I haven't seen any covers here in PA on Renegades, or other Libs with the light-bar. The police let those go because they're "factory." Got to watch word doesn't get out that they come with covers, PA will be all over that.

Guess people's are set up differently year to year, or whatever. He said his was also factory, and that's what it does, and what the manual indicates.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll definatelly have to see what I can do to have them on with high beams. I want them on for off road use.

There is a tutorial here on how to do this with the FOG lamps. You do the same thing, but use the relay for the TOP light bar instead. I am sure someone else here knows exactly how to do it. I have done it with Fog lamps on another car, not the Liberty. Though, the relays are about the same, I do not have a light bar.

It was a dealer add-on, just like every '05-6 Renegade.

Just FYI. It may have to do with how the tech wired them.
