I have a bit of a dilemma.

In the province I live in, we are obligated to run dedicated winter tires from December 15 to March 15. The tire must have the "snowflake in a mountain" logo. There is however an exception stating that LT tires are accepted. Well my Wrangler HPs don't have the snowflake logo and aren't LT tires.

So it's tire shopping time...yeah I have a few months before December, but I am looking at avoid the rush. So buying/installing sometime in the next 5-6 weeks.

What I would like to do is purchase 4 LT tires that I could use year round. The thing is, I am having a real hard time finding a tire that is LT235/65R17 instead of P235/65R17. What other sizes would fit on my stock KJ(without rubbing of course)?

Thanks

P.S. I currently have my eye on Nokian's Vatiiva H/T tire. Opinions?

You can do a 235/70 with no rubbing issues, or a 245/70 and you may or may not get rubbing issues.

Hmmm...alright kinda hit or miss then huh?

I've found a few LT225/75? is that size hit or miss also?

Any tire suggestions?

IF a 245/70R16 rubs on a KJ, it's a very LIGHT, non dangerous rubbing, which only occurs at Full Lock. I personally experienced NO rubbing with my Toyo Open Country A/Ts.

Does that also apply to 245/70R17?

You can check that yourself, fill in the size you have now and then the size you want. You can see how much bigger that tire will be. Problem is that most of us are thinking 16".

I dont think a 245/75/17 will fit. That's 31,5" and my 245/75/16 are 30,5" and I have a 3"lift. And they fit snugly...

A 245/70 would be fine with a prelowered KJ, but otherwise, nope....:)

245/70-17 is GUARANTEED to cause a LOT of rubbing on a KJ.

Go with the BFG AT in a 235/65-17 if you're worried about rubbing. Kill two birds with one stone...snowflake-on-the-mountain logo, AND it's an LT.

The equivalent 245/70R16 in a 17" wheel is a 245/65R17. Which will fit, but like said before, may or may NOT rub depending on tread pattern.

It'll still rub abit. Anyone who wants to run any sort of 245/75 in a 16 OR 17" wheel needs a lift, plain and simple.

BFG AT has the snowflake logo??? It's quite a rugged tire though. I mean I'll be driving 99% of the time on pavement.

This is what the law says:

The regulation, adopted on September 17, 2008, defines tires specifically designed for winter driving as those that meet one of the following criteria prior to December 15, 2014:

* Tires on which one of the following inscriptions appear: Alaska, Arctic, A/T or AT, Blizzard, Ice, LT, Nordic, Snow (but not mud and snow), Stud, Ultratraction or Winter

or

* Tires on which the icon representing a mountain with a superimposed snowflake appears.

ThunderbirdJunkie, I checked BFGoodrich's website and I found a few different AT tires...which one are you talking about?

Marlon_JB2, why 245 instead of 235?

It's 10MM wider and a half an inch taller and will still fit. Helps out with stability and looks cooler! I know my KJ felt a hell of a lot more stable with 245/70R16s than it did with the stock 215/75R16s!!!!

Alright...any pics?lol3.gif Would love to see what that would look like. No rubbing issues at all? Sure sure?:p

Though during the winter, especially in snow, isn't having a wide tire a disadvantage?

Jesus, how far did you have to dig to find that picture!

kj924, my 2004 (I've had TWO KJs!!!!) came STOCK with P215/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler STs!!! (Blackwall)

Those Toyo Open Country A/Ts on that Silver CRD KJ (which at the time had less than 20 miles on it I think?) came off my '04.
