Hey All-

Just wondering when everyone changed their ****** & T-case fluid for the first time? My KJ is a 2006 and just four years old last month with about 33K miles on it. No off-roading or hard driving really, just a 50/50 split of highway and local driving. I recall the maintenance manual calling for a fluid change around 30K, but does anyone really do it this soon? A good friend of mine who built cars for GM told me that it sounds way too soon to do at 30K, but I'm wondering what all you KJ owners out there would do.

Also, would this job be something a moderately familiar hobbyist mechanic like myself could do? I've done oil changes myself on it for years and have successfully changed the spark plugs and front and rear differential fluids myself in the past year or so.

Just want some clarification as I recently had the transmission in my 92 Camry go at only 92K, so I want to be sure to take good care of the Jeep if she requires it. Thanks for your input!

Changed diffs at 15k then again at 30k. Changed spark plugs, Tcase, and ****** at 30k. Plan on changing the tcase and ****** again at 60k along with the serp belt, spark plugs, and anti freeze. Maybe also the hoses and tstat.

T-case is SUPER easy to do, assuming the dealer didn't torque the sh*t out of the drain and fill plugs. There's a how-to video kicking around here somewhere. I have my trans fluid done at the dealer.

Like most here I adhere to the schedule in the book. I change out the diffs and t-case every 12.5K miles (20K kms or every fourth oil change). Too much preventative maintenance can't hurt anything but the wallet. As for the DIY aspect, the task is too easy to pay someone else to do. Do it yourself.

Ok so I've been doing a lot of reading and I just don't think I have the time/tools/patience to DIY this time. Found a dealer in Nashville and they want $180 to do the Trans Flush and not drop the pan and change the filter, though they said they would if I asked them to. I also need to do a 250 mile drive back to ATL tomorrow after the service, so I'm a little nervous about that too. Here are my questions-

1) Would you have them just do the flush or do the flush + drop the pan and change the filters?
2) Would you have them drop the pan and then drive it 250 miles afterwards?
3) Should I just wait until over the weekend to get back to a dealer in ATL and do both?

I'm at 33K miles, so I don't want to wait too much longer, wasn't sure if I should do the drive back before or after the service...
