I was helping with installation of an ARB Bumper and Mile Marker 9500 and everything is in except the control box which will not fit exactly on top of the winch motor. Will be getting a bracket fabbed but there are 3 cables that attach to the top of the winch motor (green - yellow and blue) and they are way too short for the 2 possible mounting locations for the control box. So the dumb question is (I never did this before and am trying to help a friend) can we get some positive battery cable and use that to extend the cables coming off the control box to connect to the bolts on the winch motor? It looks about the same size.

Any thoughts on this??

Thanks,
Dave

The ARB comes with the control box mount, well at least mine did and the other ARB I installed came with one also. The control box sits on a little "U" bracket(circled in red),see pic below.......

You can try using battery cables found at any parts stores, granted you only get red or black as color choices,my cables where plenty long enough when I mounted my WARN XP9500.

^^^There is a bracket welded to the ARB but it isn't wide enough and the bolt holes on the control box don't line up. That is not a big deal as there is a metal fab shop in town that can probably fab a bracket in 20 minutes. I just wanted to make sure the battery cables would work.

Thanks, Troy

LibertyFever.....we didn't think of that mounting location. That looks pretty good on the YJ. I will mention it to him. He hasn't decided yet. It is on hold until the weekend now.

The ARB bumper and winch are installed on a Range Rover but I didn't mention it before as that was not relevant to my question and I didn't know where to post it except in the KJ section. So I hope you guys don't throw stones at me.:D

Guys do this kind of stuff all the time
I have seen guys with "in cab controls" which basically they "hot wire" the control box ,which is mounted under the hood, with some toggle switches in side the Jeep
This is what I will do if I get a winch

so yes any length wire you want as long as it has the proper ends on it and is of the proper gauge for the amount of current and the length you want to run it
