So I think my next mod is going to be winch...what are the ones to consider? I'm leaning towards the Warn M8000...but also noticed the VR8000 too. Engo winches seem intriguing too.

Any thoughts? I'll be using a backbone if that makes a difference. Price range wise I'd like to stay at or under the Warn M8000 price point ($585 seems to be the going rate).

Well I don't know, I;m a firm believer that almost anything you buy now-a-days is a crap shoot. You are going to get a bunch of opinions on this, including mine. I usually over research things when I go and buy something, and when I was looking for a winch for my JK the engo was getting great reviews, including what a lot of folks were saying was a shafted shootout review from 4wheeler magazine(if I recall correctly), so that is what I bought, and have been happy with my decision.

I have a Warn M8000 on my Wrangler and it has never let me down.
On the trails I've seen a few SuperWinch's fail, often on the very first use.
You get what you pay for.
Also the rule of thumb is to choose a winch with a capacity of 1.5 times the weight of you vehicle.
Have you decided yet Hoosier if you're going with wire rope of synthetic?

Probably wire since that what is comes with, eventually will go to synthetic when the wire wears out or needs to be replaced for whatever reason.

I've been doing quite a bit of searching and it's really hard to find anything bad about the M8000.

I know I'll get yelled at, but my Harbor Freight 12k# winch has been stellar. It also gets good reviews from various sources.

Great as being a $300 paper weight or boat anchor. The real stats are over 50% do not even work out of the box, same company that makes smittybuilt and the like "cheap" winches.
