Window Slid down when door was shut.

Hey there. I have a question about what might have went wrong in my Jeep Liberty.

I was exiting the vehicle the other day @ the rear, shut the door and the window slid down. Was under the impression that this was due to the plastic piece on the window slide giving out and causing the window to slide down/off on the track.

Was curious what your take is on this.
When I try to roll(push the window up/down button(electric motor)) the window up/down it doesn't do anything.

The vehicle was off when this happened (when the door was shut and the window slid down).

The side it happened on: right rear (passenger side rear) window.

Do not worry it is just the window regulator and is a quick fix. It is about a 15-30 minute job for someone doing it for the first time.

So it's just something that needs to pop back in place or do I need to purchase something that broke?

Save your money. Here's what you need (assuming your KJ is an 02-06 - if not, just find the correct year on that website).

When mine went out, I just went ahead and bought a kit - one for each door. They're all likely to fail, so I'm prepared for when they do.

Sorta, but it's very easy. Aside from basic hand tools, the kit comes with everything you need, including detailed instructions. You won't be replacing the whole regulator, just the part that failed (hence the low price). If I remember right, you just have to remove a rivet or two, which you'll replace with the included nut and bolt; then it's just a matter of replacing the crappy, busted plastic piece with a much stronger steel one, and reinstalling the regulator.

Yup, same thing happened when I washed my Libby for my own delivery. I was shutting the doors tightly a habit when I go to wash a vehicle and it slid right down. Next time it happens I'm going to get the kit and fix it without doing the whole regulator.

Bingo. That's because Jeep's is injection molded plastic, whereas the part sold on autoandart (like it's predecessor from Steiger Performance) is made of steel. My KJ is also an '06, and I also replaced the one on the right rear regulator. Fit like it was made for it. Because it was.

In the interest of thoroughness, I suppose I shouldn't assume your KJ is an EARLY 06 like mine. You should follow the instructions at this link to determine whether you need the one for 02-06 KJ's or the one for 06-07 KJ's (they changed the design of these parts midway through 06. It didn't help). Then, use that information to buy the correct part from autoandart. It's a shame Steiger Performance doesn't have a better price. He did all the hard work, then whoever makes the part sold on autoandart apparently stole the whole idea. But that's the way business goes. It's unfortunate for Steiger, but most of us don't have pockets deep enough to pay quadruple the going rate just for the sake of principle.
