You need to check the ground connections for the tail light on that side and make sure its solid. Bad grounds can cause all sorts of problems, including voltage surges that can burn out filaments.

You are correct to be wary … counterfeit parts are definitely becoming more and more of a problem with both eBay and Amazon … that is one of the main reasons I suggested buying through Rockauto … all of their participating wholesalers are legitimate parts distributors.
I suggest using rockauto.com … their user interface for parts is accurate and easy to use and usually offers many options and price points for most all parts that you might need to fit and fix your KJ.
