The left brake light burned out today or yesterday. That’s a fun one to remove without a long T20 anything. I bodged some things together and just got far enough. My big fat hands don’t really fit in what little gap there is.

Then the clip for the upper scr3w kept getting pushed forward when I snapped the fixture back into place. I finally wedged it with a bit of kitchen matchstick. It still moved, but I got the scr3w started. I need something a bit bigger before I go in next time, maybe a bit of cardboard or paper.

Off to NAPA tomorrow morning for the bits and bobs.

On pavement The BatCar rides as smooth as any sedan. Being a bit above the other cars gives it a Magic Carpet kind of feeling.

I never learned much about our ‘93 XJ because the only thing that ever broke during the twelve years we owned it was the clutch sl4ve cylinder. That conked out twice, five years apart. We added a bit over 200k miles to the 65k it had on it when we bought it in 1995. I may have also replaced the thermostat, but otherwise nothing but regular and PM type stuff.

Just before we moved, we gave it to some friends who were on hard times, and they drove it another nine months before a tie rod gave out. By then they were doing better, and in mountain country even a broken Jeep has value, so they traded it in on something and have been fine ever since.

I drove a ‘73 Beetle for ten years, and it’s been almost twenty since I had to move on from that car. Now I find myself in the mood, and with the means, to geek on a vehicle once more. By sheer dumb luck I purchased the Jeep that was good for that sort of thing, for about half the price of any Wrangler I saw out there.

Be surprised really how well it rides with a good OME lift
The suspensions stock are so weak I couldn't stand the ride in my 04 with 100 miles on it
after a OME lift , then it rode like it should have from the factory

I put these in today. Here’s to hoping they last longer than incandescent bulbs. They do light up faster than third light now. I also bought a 10” extension for my ratchet set and now dealing with the port fixture is much easier.

That and a few more reps. I also noticed there’s a clear piece of plastic that must have been stuck to the back side of the lens that’s loose. A bit melted on one edge. At some point I should look around for a new fixture.

Okay, quick five-mile bike ride to NAPA and back for, of all things, a new spark plug gapper. Took about as long as tearing through all the toolboxes did.

The job is done. Not too difficult, but I was going very slowly this first time. Plug center electrodes pretty well gone, definitely overdue for a new set.

I was nervous, because I didn’t want to mess anything up. Everything seems to be okay so far. The test drive felt normal.

Good to know. I didn’t want to come back here and say, “Nah, I decided to be stupid and just slam them in without checking.”

Its been a year now owning the kj for me, I haven't changed the plugs yet, who knows what plugs are in mine so I'm due for some myself!

With how parts stores are in my area, I've had to regap at least a few times with vehicles in the past, so I always check now haha.

They should be in a box and not even touched no matter if it is even autozone

Yeah, at least I found the right kind of plugs in there. I’ll sleep better tonight knowing it’s done, couldn’t bear to waste such a nice day.

I can only think of one week since the end of December that the car wasn’t in the shop, or I wasn’t doing stuff to it. Almost at the end of the list.

Yesterday was my birthday, another one with a zero in it, so my geezerhood has truly begun. I’m taking an overnight road trip today to celebrate, and commence The Years of Wandering. I haven’t been east of the Cascades since I moved here fourteen years ago.

I’ve started looking for a replacement EVIC. Mine doesn’t show tire pressures. I would like to fix that. Front and fuel tank skids arrived yesterday. Glad I bought when I did, DeadJeep is out o’ stock on the front one now. Three out of of four ain’t bad.
