I’m replacing my entire power steering system, and came here to see what kind of power steering fluid i should be putting in it. 2003 Liberty Sport 3.7l (42RLE trans), manual says MS-5931. Has anyone had any experience with using atf+4 instead or luck somehow finding mopar ms-5931 fluid? mopar dealerships near me haven’t been much help, thanks!

Are you having to replace the whole rack & pinion, pump, return pressure lines etc?
Probably ATF+4 would be the best option. After 2003 ATF+4 was used in the KJ's as the standard.

I’m replacing all of it! i got muddy water in the power steering reservoir & contaminated the entire system. the dealerships i called specifically said not to use atf+4, the other said to use mopar power steering fluid 4 - is there truly a difference?

I'd just go with the ATF+4. I had an 02 with the factory ps fluid. The PO topped off with ATF+4 and it whined when cold. Seemed to function fine but I flushed the system and replaced with ATF+4 and it was much better after that.

From what I have read there is a TSB that states you can use ATF+4 in a new system fill but not for topping up otherwise you will end up with seal leakage, if you want to stick with ms-5931 Valvoline make an equivalent
